I do let him play independently while I sneak away and do some chores, but he does tend to get whiney after awhile. I wish I could read his mind!

I agree with @eeh: You do NOT need to constantly stimulate your child. Every moment doesn't need to be a teachable one. Your son has a a lot to gain from independent play.

My daughter loved to just play alone on the floor or hang out in her jumperoo.

First, you do NOT have to entertain your child 24 hours a day regardless of what anyone tells you. I'm not saying you should neglect your child but there is no reason your son can't entertain himself for a little while. That's an important life skill to learn too.

Second, going on a walk is very educational for him. Especially if you point out things to him and et him experience different textures like grass and bark and dirt.

Third, if he likes to jump consider getting a doorway jumper or an exersaucer for him to play in. My fifth month old daughter LOVES jumping and would do it all day if I let her.

Fourth, sometimes I think my daughter gets tired of me playing with her. She'll start fussing so I'll just lay her next to me and leave her alone to discover her toes and fingers and stare at the ceiling fan and she loves it.

My baby is currently 5.5 months old, and I confess that I get bored playing with him. I have him napping after being awake for 1.5-2 hours but I find myself always looking forward to his next nap after playing with him for a whole half an hour! Hahaha. He can't quite sit up on his own yet, and he doesn't even love to sit. What he likes to do is standing and jumping, which requires my holding onto him for that. I have an activity gym for that reason, but he doesn't last long in there! So, do you ever get bored playing with your baby? What do you do to entertain yourself and your LO at the same time? Sometimes as a cop out, I put him in the carrier and we go out for a walk for his whole awake period and he seems perfectly fine with that. But, I feel that approach is too passive - that he's not learning anything from that? Any ideas to keep it fun at this age?
