Then his aunt mentioned that Lysine pills really helped and now he rarely gets them. We still get them! It's so frustrating and painful. We've got them on our tongues, on the soft palate under the tongue, on our cheeks, on the inside of our lips, even on the dangly thing in the back of your throat!!</p> <p>I've asked the doctor what causes it and she said it's just a hereditary thing and unfortunately, nothing can really be done. I don't get them as much today though. I've noticed I get them now when I have some kind of mouth trauma (bite my lip, brushing too hard) or really acidic food (too much citrus). My dentist gave me viscous lidocaine when I was younger, but now I just use whatever. </p> <p>BTW, canker sores are NOT caused by the Herpes virus. There is absolutely no evidence of that. Cold sores are caused by it.
