@blackbird: Fully agree with using a sulfate-free toothpaste. This the number one cause of my canker sores. I almost never get them if I stick to SLS free ones. I'll have one in a week if I run out and use my husband's toothpaste.

@blackbird: Thanks for those suggestions! I hate canker sores. I get them a few times a year and those suckers hurt.

Ugh, yes! I've suffered with varying degrees of these over the years since I was a child. I switched within the last year to an SLS-free toothpaste, like @blackbird: suggested (I use Burt's Bees) and that has completely stopped them for me, even being pregnant!

While they are stress related for me, I think the SLS was the real trigger for me because if I use regular toothpaste now I get one.

Yes!!!! I used to get them all the freaking time as a kid, and they hurt so bad. My brother did too. We'd each get multiple at a time and some appeared on ridiculous surfaces in our mouth (our gum line, our uvala, under our tongue, etc.). They appeared less frequent in the past 2 years, and would only pop up around the time AF would show.

I used to get them all.the.time. Stress, too much candy, trauma to the mouth, and/or too much acidic food cause them for me. DH gets them if he has too much tomato sauce or orange juice.

How to kill them: Dab a q-tip on white distilled vinegar and put it on the canker sore. It goes away in about 2 days versus a week+.

Preventive: Use Rembrant canker sore toothpaste because the SLS foaming agent in regular toothpaste can also cause/exasperate them. Now, I only get them a couple times a year.

I used to get them all the time in high school, I think related to stress and lack of sleep. I didn't work as hard in college, so that problem went away :)

Fellow sufferer too! If I bite my lip or inner cheek, I am guaranteed to get one. I used to take lysine supplements in grad school when it was really bad and that seemed to help stave them off. My mouth is also really sensitive to sugar.

Ouch! Yes - I used to get them often. Ever since I went gluten free due to celiac disease they have gone away! I did get one when I accidentally ate gluten.

I found drinking milk helps ease the pain.

Stress and citrus and sugar. They are an ulcer, pretty much.

I get them REALLY bad if I eat sugary things. Nestle Iced Tea, the powder? If I even have a SIP of a glass of that I will get one guaranteed.

I get them quite often. They suck bad.

they don't know what causes canker sores, but they can be related to stress.

Do you ever get canker sores?
