@blackbird: I totally remember you mentioning this in another thread and I forgot!!!! Not that it would have helped with my last ones because they were at the back of my throat and I couldn't see them. :( Can you gargle with distilled vinegar? LOL EW.

Like @citymouse I get them on the insides of my lips when I accidentally bite my lip while eating. The place I bite turns into a huge, painful canker sore and it's just awful! I've explained to DH that sometimes they hurt so bad it feels like that whole area of my face hurts and gives me a headache. Also those numbing creams only work for like five minutes :-( I'm definitely going to try some of the tips here next time, thanks everyone!

I used to get them allllllll the time, but rarely did while I was pregnant and have only had a couple since she's been born. I usually get them over my I teeth, where the gums and lips meet. I have also heard it could be menstruation related, which would make sense about why mine went away!

Oh, I get these from stress too! A nurse told me to swish hydrogen peroxide over it when I get one (make sure not to swallow!) and it dries it up pretty quickly.

@mamamoose, awesome, i know tea tree oil is an anti-fungal, too!

Oh yeah, like @bananapancakes, I use the Rembrant "Gentle White" toothpaste. It has helped a TON. I really only rarely get them now.

I get them when I get stressed, as well, and also if I use toothpaste with SLS. I have issues with sulfates, but I've read switching to a sulfate free toothpaste will help anyone who gets them.

@blackbird: I forgot about this one! Thanks for reminding me.

I used to get them all the time! Tomatoes and acidic foods and stress are my triggers

The BEST remedy EVER is to dip a q-tip in WHITE distilled vinegar. Hold it on there for 30 seconds at couple times a day. It'll be gone so fast, I promise!

@VEGMAMA: I have read that there is a connection with celiac/gluten before! For me there was a clear connection... Just googled a bit and found;

The Mayo clinic lists it on their site as a possible cause for canker sores:
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/canker-sore/DS00354/DSECTION=causes

And here is an old link, but it talks about celiac and gluten sensitivity:
http://www.celiac.com/articles/21858/1/Could-that-Canker-Sore-Mean-Celiac-Disease/Page1.html

My mom used to get them too - but she doesn't have celiac, she finds they are stress related.

I get them! But mostly only when I bite my cheek or tongue by accident. They will pop up in those spots. Mine are really painful. I take a qtip and dip in peroxide, pat dry the spot, and drop some peroxide on it. Doing that a few times a day keeps the sting away and clears them up fast.

@mrsjazz: you are correct. Canker sores are ulcers in your mouth. They are caused by stress, sugar and citrus.

I get them chronically, I hate them! I just got over have two at the same time, one in the back of my throat and the other under my tongue! Ouchie.

I get them from drinking powdered ice tea. No joke. Every time. Even a sip. And stress.

@mrsjazz: oh duh, I'm mixing up canker sores and cold sores! Mine don't even hurt... they just irritate me because I can feel them all the time, and I end up biting them by accident and then they get all inflamed.

I get them when I'm stressed, too. And my lymph nodes are usually swollen when I get them and sometimes I feel like I'm coming down with something. Guess it's our bodies' way of telling us to slow down.

@mrs. wagon: Cankers aren't caused by herpes (I believe, someone correct me if I'm wrong) and aren't on the outside of the mouth like cold sores--they're inside the mouth. I usually get mine in the back mouth and they hurt like hell.

I don't get the typical ones on the lips-- I get bumps on my tongue, usually on the tip. They usually flare up when I'm stressed or sleep deprived. Dang herpes.

i used to get them more often - the worst! drinking milk helps actually when they're really sore.

i have celiac and found when I went gluten free they went away -- assuming it was the stress on my body causing them!

enjoy your "me" night - sounds fab ;)

I have a killer one right now. I get them only when I am super stressed out. Sometimes they are my first indication that I'm actually stressed!

I thought I had been dealing well with setbacks and stresses this past week, but the lovely canker that popped up this morning reminded me otherwise. I took a "me night" by not cooking (thank you pizza man), reading trashy mags and relaxing in the bath. As annoying it is, sometimes cankers are a reminder to me to slow down and chill out. Anyone else get cankers??
