My doctor said a huge percentage of the population has the antibodies and that she's more shocked if blood work shows a person hasn't been exposed than if it shows they have. DH gets them when he's sick/stressed/gets too much sun and I don't worry about catching it because I know I've already got it. I took Valtrex daily as a preventative for 2 years and now I only get one a couple times a year, usually when I'm stressed, sleep deprived, and once when I got too much sun on my face. If I get one now, I do a round of Valtrex and get it lasered by my dentist. And lots of Abreva. </p> <p>Sorry to hear about your LO. I have to stay away from triggering food items like mangoes or persimmons even though I love both. Its been more manageable the last 5-6 years. I really try to listen to my body because it usually flairs up when im eating really unhealthy for extended periods of time. I always keep a bottle of lysine supplements in the house and take it if I feel any tingling. It usually prevents it from getting worse. Sometimes it prevents it completely, other times it just shortens the duration that you have the cold sore. I buy it at GNC or Target, and I believe it's an amino acid.</p> <p>The only foods that I avoid when I feel a cold sore coming on are those high in acid like tomatoes and citrus. </p>
