I just like celebrating it with my DH with dinner for 2. I turned the FB notification off so nobody really knows when my birthday is. But after recent events with my Godfather's sudden passing, I think I need to celebrate everything with more intention. Life is such a gift to be celebrated. I could understand someone being hurt if they went out of their way to do something special for your birthday and they got nothing in return (I mean, that's not a reason to give but I'm just trying to give another perspective). I don't mind though - I'm an adult and it's just another day/another year! I do put reminders in my phone for my close friends birthdays because I would feel really bad if I forgot. I usually try to give something little (especially since they give on my b-day). We both have our own families and life is busy, so it's understandable to forget! If I hurt a friend by not forgetting their birthday though, I would apologize and tell them I'll try to make more of an effort to remember it in the future. That's pretty bad even if you are the 3rd child. I only remember my super close knit group of friends, but that's because all of our birthdays are close to one another within a month or so.
