@supernova, the stuff I take (progenex) has that and it is crazy expensive!! I need to mix my own. It is SUPER helpful, though

Look into supplements with BCAAs for faster recovery. I think they truly make a difference - maybe get a protein powder that includes adequate BCAAs so you can include them in your post workout recovery shake.

I typically only workout w/ my body weight, but sometimes I'll get sore. When I was doing a lot more weight training, I wouldn't think my workout was a success unless I was sore - haha!

@mrbee: to alleviate the soreness, make sure you're drinking LOTS of water and eating protein after your workout. Also, staying active, including working out, will get the muscles to loosen up. (But it will be really hard to start out when you are sore).

Only after a new workout or something I haven't done in a long time. For example, I went back to CrossFit today for the first time after having LO and I am afraid if how I will feel in the morning!

I try to eat protein and carbs within 30 minutes of working out to help with recovery. Also stretching and foam rolling!

It depends on what I do. When I was jogging, I didn't really get sore the next day unless I didn't stretch. Aquafit = no pain. But any time I go to spin class or pilates...OUCH!

If I'm not sore somewhere it wasn't a workout, just exercise. Moving the muscles around is a good way to alleviate soreness. That workout you skipped would have made you feel better faster.

Soreness peaks after 48 hours! You'll be less sore if you work out a little and you can lessen it with a protein shake within 30 min of your work out. You can also rub the muscles or use lacrosse balls

Being sore is a good thing though!

@mrbee: the 30 day shred is killer! I was sore almost everyday after I did that workout!

I normally get sore if I'm doing weight training, or a new form of cardio that I haven't done in a while, like ride a bike, or run if I haven't in a few months!

If I work with my trainer, yes. If I do cardio and strength on my own, no. I don't think I push myself like he does.lol

If I do resistance training yes I get sore. If I just do moderate cardio I don't.

If I do a new workout or work a body part in a new way I definitely get sore!

Epsom salt soak or advil help a lot. I also have found if I do some light exercise the next day it helps break up the lactic acid and reduce soreness.

I did day 2 of the 30 day shred yesterday. It took me 3 days to do the two workouts though... because I got sore after Day One and had to take some time to recover!

I looked it up and it's apparently called DOMS:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delayed_onset_muscle_soreness

Wikipedia said that stretching does not prevent soreness but just in case, I did some extra stretching yesterday. I think maybe it helped? We'll find out tomorrow, I guess ha.

Do you get sore after you work out? What do you do to prevent soreness?
