It's interesting to see that most people wouldn't mind. It's not so much that I mind in a way as to actually do anything about it--like I wouldn't tell or call out my bff who forgot by any means!--but it does feel a little bit sad. I definitely don't make a big deal about my birthday now that I'm an adult--it was mostly just a normal day. But I think I feel a bit sad because it seems symptomatic of friends drifting off more and more as we get older. Which is totally normal, but we were just visiting my mil who is VERY socially isolated and honestly, that scares me! We have 2 young kids as do a lot of my friends. It's hard enough keeping our calendars straight without having to worry about others' birthdays. I try to keep them all in my calendar and send people a text for their birthday, but I'm not always good at remembering either. It would be hypocritical if I got mad at someone else for forgetting my birthday.</p> <p>Even now, my family will call each other and sing Happy Birthday. It's really fun for the kids to do that and either leave that person a message if they don't answer or just to even sing to them if they pick up. DH's family doesn't call us, but we'll call them and do the same because it's fun.
