One of his nephrologists once told me that he's seen an increase in the kind of kidney damage that ibuprofen can cause in recent years, and that he thought that long term usage even at suggest dosages wasn't healthy. </p> <p>It can also interfere with prostaglandins, and potentially effect conception. For all these reasons, I try not to take it, and I try not to give it to my daughter. It worked great for a weekend of high fevers that we recently went through. </p> <p>I prefer it because I read an article about a year ago that heavy use of Acetaminophen can be linked with asthma. But since LMW is too young for it (they say not to use it before 6 months) we give her acetaminophen. But our pediatrician mentioned at our last visit that we can alternate them throughout the day. Usually I give IB profen before bed time because it lasts longer. I prefer it over acetaminophen and my pedi didn't tell us to use one over the other. My preference is probably just personal bias though since i dont take tylenol often myself.</p> <p> DS had a febrile seizure about 6 weeks ago or so when his fever spiked high and fast. So for teething, it's usually a better option. Acetominophen for faster relief, ibuprofen for longer lasting. In the cases where the fever wasn't handled by one, we got the ok from the pedi to alternate the two kinds. So when we were half way through the dosage period of the first kind used, we would dose with the other. Acetaminophen doesn't really seem to help her, so we stick with ibuprofen.</p> <p>What pain medication do you typically give your LO? </p>
