We used to have a 50-60 minute drive to work and home EVERY DAY EACH WAY. So there were tons of snacks. I fed her bananas, goldfish, fruit leather, those crazy rice cookie things that babies love, those purees in pouches... And water. That was when she was 12-22 months.

Sometimes she choked a bit, never seriously.

And yes. It is always a total mess in the back seat. But it was dinner time and I was driving on the highway, In the dark. In the winter.

I recommend you NOT give rice krispie squares. SO messy.

Sometimes. We have a long ride and sometimes she is a grump (or psycho) ;) so I give her something to tide her over. With crackers, I just make sure she has water available.

@Woohoo585 She holds the iPad in the car. She changes apps and videos as she likes. I swear she knows how to do things on it better than I do.

She was eating goldfish, which she never has any trouble with. Anything can be a choking hazard...

Nope, our ride home from daycare is about a mile. Dinner is waiting for him. I get home and get his dinner ready. On longer trips, he gets snacks.

I voted sometimes....but we're not actually in daycare.....but I give him snacks on long car rides.
I stick to things that I know 99% that he can handle. Usually cheerios or crackers.

I usually give a sippy of milk to fill him up, the snacks still make me nervous!

@LC - Yikes that is SO scary, glad she was ok! iPad is a good idea, do you have it mounted or does she just hold it? (My DD is a thrower)

I voted everyday, but that's not true. I do it in situations when I know it will help. Coming home from church or a play date, on a ride longer than 30 minutes...

I used to, because it was the only way to keep her from crying the entire ride home. But one day on the way home she actually did choke. She was about 18 months at the time. It was dark out so I didn't even know until she suddenly let out a blood curdling scream and I realized what happened. I'm completely scarred from it and I never let her eat in her car seat now. We give her the iPad now instead, it prevents screaming as well as a snack did. Not ideal for screentime, but at least she won't choke.

Our daycare has crackers you can take on your way out for the ride home, and I always see people doing it but haven't yet. My LO is 17 months old and it just seems so messy / still a choking hazard for her to eat while I'm driving.

BUT she is sort of a psycho at that time of day so I'm wondering if a snack / drink would help. Wondering what you all do?
