@daniellemybelle: I'm glad you posted this earlier- c is sick today but I remembered this post and tried giving her some coconut water. She's loving it and I feel good about keeping her hydrated! She actually doesn't even really like most fruit juices (after I was so afraid to give her any because I thought she would never drink plain water).

@regberadaisy: I don't even have a favorite brand - I think they all taste the same. Well, my favorite is the one that has the pulp in it too (Taste Nirvana) - but that's not affordable and I can't find it in bulk (It's like $3 a can individually - but they're large cans - like 16 oz I think?)
I think I typically buy Zico - they're probably the most affordable. I don't know the price off the top of my head though.

our family drinks coconut water fairly regularly - we LOVE it and it's so good for you. We don't buy any that have added sugar, most of the brands I've come across done. I know costco sells several brands in bulk, and none have sugar that I've seen.

@daniellemybelle: i know this girl is controversial, but i looked at what she had to say and then decided i was fine with the vita coco plain as it didn't have the sugars or any of the other issues she was talking about. i don't know that i care about organic coconuts necessarily and actually had a hard time locating her higher ranked ones now that i'm in a different city.

My DD loves coconut water. We don't always give it to her but I think I would rather have her drinking that than a boxed juice.

I also think different brands of coconut water tastes different. There are some I REALLY dont like. trader joe brand is pretty good

Coconut water (without added sugar) is about 5% sugar. Apple juice is about 11% and white grape juice is 16%. I don't feel bad occasionally giving LO coconut water but she doesn't really like it except as popsicles.

E really liked it. I love it and drink it occasionally. I have a can next to me right now! A cup has 19 grams of sugar...meh. Less than regular juice, though. You can always water it down.

@daniellemybelle: there are different ones. Some are literally just water from a coconut which obviously does have sugar much like other fruits. But it's not added sugar like, say, Juicy Juice!

We tried. She had a bad stomach bug this weekend, and it was recommended to rehydrate her. Unfortunately, she told me it was 'disgusting' and wouldn't drink the 'yucky juice'.

I think, though it technically is still juice, that it has a lot less sugar and more health benefits than just a regular fruit juice.

I think coconut water tastes like sunscreen but LO had some this weekend and sucked it down! She doesn't do great about drinking water so I am thinking I may offer it to her regularly now to keep her hydrated.

The only thing I wonder about is the sugar and if it is similar to giving her another kind of juice. I mean, despite all the health claims, it is still basically fruit juice, right?
