I just hear that a lot, that the concept is sexist and that Disney is evil and I just enjoyed it so much in my childhood that I couldn't imagine not sharing the magic. We walk down the shop aisles and they are full of Disney Princess dresses - identical, homogeneous. He fondly remembers having a dressing up box full of Viking helmets and cowboy hats; it wasn't a "Woody" hat. He feels that Disney (not just the films, but the entire corporation) has taken some of the imagination out of childhood and attempts to tell people how to think. He says that once your need to think is removed, all there is left is to consume. </p> <p>He also has a real problem with the sanitisation of the fairy stories. Most of these fairy tales - the Grimm ones especially - were actually quite dark and yet they have made them into "nicey nicey" things for no good reason, taking the moral out of the original stories. The films usually have happy endings and good triumphs evil, evil people disintegrate and magic hair brings your boyfriend back to life. He feels that this paints an unrealistic view of life to children and tells them that everything will be okay if only they meet a handsome prince. </p> <p>This may well all be a misrepresentation of his thoughts because it is hard to type while he is (still) ranting. He's now going on about how Disney are no different to Amazon and Pfizer....</p> <p>..... i just asked him if he liked Shrek (he does!) and he paused for a second.... and has just told me it's not Disney, it's Dreamworks.
