We have rough plans for the next 2/5/10 years.

2 years - pay off remaining student loan debt (about 40k)

in between: buy land and build forever home. This can happen at any time, we have the $ and blueprints, just waiting on the right parcel of land in the right neighborhood to pop up for sale! Want to be into our forever home before LO is in kindergarten.

5 years - buy investment property (apartment building or lakeside rental cabin...haven't decided which yet, but probably apartment building). Take cruise on Viking River Cruises down the Nile River in Egypt (this will be our 5th anniversary trip/DH 50th birthday trip, w/o LO who will go to "camp grandparents" for a week). Go back to Tuscany. Husband will go up to full professor from associate, which will greatly increase his income.

10 years - buy a few more pieces of investment property (these would all be apartment buildings). I would love to be able to transition to part time work at this point and do more volunteer work. Take lots of trips with LO!

We kind of have 2 and 5ish year plans, but no 10 year yet. I figure the really far out planning depends on whether we can have kids and if we end up going through with having 2.

2 years - have a baby, DH and I start working from home part time

5 years - have a second baby, sell our house and buy one in a better school district when baby #1 is kindergarten age. I will also start job searching after baby #2.

2 years - buy more rental properties and have baby #1

5 years - get into commerical property, maybe own another personal business, move into our forever home, and have baby #2/#3

10 years - be more established with commercial properties, have our income work for us while our jobs are more for leisure, take the kids on summer vacations that my parents were able to provide for us

5 years - buy our first home, be wealthy enough to retire! but continue working forever. :)

It's interesting to look at life goals that way. I'm generally a take-things-as-they-come kind of gal, but I can see these things happening within 2/5/10 years.

2 years: get my first book published, build up my freelance career, and get acquainted with the new baby.

5 years: have another baby or two, do more publishing/freelance stuff.

10 years: finish having babies, double-triple our income, have investments & a large savings, increase value of our home by 70k.

Oh wow! We definitely don't really have 2/5/10 year plans! I mean, we're in a good place right now where we don't really see much changing. We have our forever home, we're married, and we're currently pregnant with kid #1. Our next real plan is to have kid #2 and then take it from there.

@Cole: nice! So if something happened would you be willing to change it or are you pretty set in your goals for the future? :-)

We tend to phrase things that way but we haven't ever really come up with a list if that makes sense. For us it would look like
2 year plan:
Have a baby
Spend more time/money on decorating our house

5 year plan:
Take a larger vacation (Europe?)
Have a second child
Potentially have my husband move more towards freelance work or go back to

10+ year plan:
Take a one year sabbatical and move abroad
Do some renovations on our house if we are still here (replace our sunroom, do a small addition to change the layout of the back of our house, replace deck with a patio)

DH & I have to make some pretty big plans in the next 6 months regarding our future goals/dream/plans. We are struggle to decide on a few options. It got me thinking....maybe we should have a 2 year plan (which we kinda do already) a 5 year plan and then a 10 year plan... i guess it would go something like this.

2 year plan
move to a new town ( a MUST for DH's work.)
have a baby :-) (yaaay)
buy a house (these aren't in order by the way)

5 year plan
DH get promotion (move to town for best schools if not already there)
have babies 2 & 3 (eek ;-) )

10 year plan
get a block of land
take year off for DH and I to take family camping trip around Australia.

our problem is we can't decided which town to be in next.....one close to family for first baby or one far away where DH will earn almost double $$.

SO are you a 2, 5, 10 yr plan family....or do you just take things as they come?
