I should add that we just got a bunch in my school this year, too and the kids love them. They are SO MUCH faster than the dell laptops that we have and since we use google so much for their work/emails it is perfect for that purpose.

I love mine. If you are using it with google drive/docs/sheets/etc it is WONDERFUL. I found that I don't need the space on the hard drive if I am using google because it is super super easy to save things right to your drive from the chromebook. Also, it's fast. I have an older Samsung one (2 years old). Can't complain. :)

They're great. Slightly different, but I am a teacher and my whole class has them for one-to-one capabilities. And while it is true you can't use it for Microsoft office, most of the Google Drive features mimic office anyway. Plus you have the added bonus of being able to access them anywhere!

I looooooove my Chromebook. It's super fast (from the moment I flip open the screen to when I'm logged in, it's about 5 seconds-- really fast booting up, since there's nothing really "on" the computer to slow it down) and I use it for web browsing and looking at pics from my Google Drive. Everything is in the cloud, so your computer stays fast.

It also stays charged for FOREVER. I'm at 50% for battery right now, with 8 hours left. That's insane compared to my work laptop, which maxes out at just under an hour at a full charge.

Ditto @Foodnerd81: you cannot install Microsoft office but can use google docs, Google sheets, Etc and save everything to google drive. Once saved in your google drive you can access it from any device by logging into your Google/gmail account. I personally love Google drive and chromebooks. No more having to save stuff to flash drives and stuff. Our school district is slowly replacing all teacher desktops and laptops with chromebooks. I have a district one and a personal one BC I don't like having to bring home my school one. I also have a reg laptop but I use my chromebook 99% of the time.

My DH has one and uses in his classroom and brings it home to do work. He says it's basically like a big tablet. He's able to do all his lessons with the Chromebook utilizing free Google stuff. We are planning to buy one for our personal use. We also like to hook it up to our tv and stream movies.

I just got one for Christmas so I'm happy to read these reviews. I want it for web browsing and photos, and things like taking digital photos and making cards with them.

You cannot download Microsoft office but you can use the google versions (google docs instead of word, google sheets instead of excel). I am told it's fine if you aren't trying to do anything really advanced (like I pm already use google sheets for my address list, not exactly complicated). But I have barely used it at all yet. I think mine is asus something and it flips all the way around.

@hilsy85: writing emails and online works just fine, though? Why wouldn't you suggest it for longer writing? Is the keyboard okay? Which one do you have? I was looking at the Asus Chromebook Flip. it got the best reviews of all I read about.

@Mamaof2: so you can't even download a photo from your email? Or you can't install things like microsoft office? I'm really just looking for a web-browsing computer.

yes and I love it!! It's super fast and they're inexpensive. I use it for browsing the internet and for photos. If I had to do a lot of typing and needed a word processor, I prob would not get it.

@mediagirl: maybe you already know this but Chromebooks are only for web based applications - nothing else

I was going to get one until I realized you cant download anything on to it :bummed:

If you have one or someone close to you has one, are you happy with it? What don't you like about it? I'm considering one but I'm concerned about slowness and space. I can resolve the space issue with an external drive, though.
