I have a La Creuset and use it for everything! Bought it at the outlet and managed to negotiate it down to $75. I would have paid full price.

Here's a fun recipe that is easy and delicious and an interesting use of it:

2 Le Creusets...I use the round one for EVERYTHING, from pasta to chicken to soup and chili. i made a recipe this weekend that called for a crockpot, but i put it in the dutch oven instead, in the oven on 200.
Could not live without it!

@spaniellove: LeCreuset cast irons have a lifetime warranty, so you should check with their customer service!

I have two LeCreusets and love them! In the winter especially I use them all the time for soups, roasts, casseroles, etc. Nothing sticks and everything cooks evenly.

I bought a Lodge enameled cast iron dutch oven from Amazon and I love it. I use it to make soups, roasts, and braising meat. It's easy to clean and in the interior gets stained I think you just boil baking soda in it and it magically disappears.

@kakimochi: I actually got mine as a wedding gift (or maybe at my bridal shower, I forget), so I wasn't aware of the cost till I just checked it on Amazon, but I agree! Why is the 3 qt more expensive??? Maybe because it's more popular? I find it to be the perfect size for most of my stuff!

yes @adira, i have the 6 qt and 3 qt lodge dutch ovens, i bought from amazon about 2 months ago, though it boggles me that the 3 qt is more expensive than the 6 qt, but still overall a very good price for what seems like a comparable brand to le creuset. i have been using it often, braising, making casseroles, stew. one pot spaghetti, yum!!

I have a 4.7L (i think??) oval Le Creuset dutch oven that we got at the outlet store in California. $170 was an AMAZING deal considering they cost about $300-$500 at the Canadian William Sonomas.

I use it pretty frequently, so i think it was one of my better purchases. I use it for braising, stews, and soups.

I have 2 Le Creusets and after about 5 years of use I recently noticed that the enamel on the inside bottom seems to have worn away a little, maybe from browning things. Not chipping, just wearing away, so food tends to stick. I still love them!

I have debated about getting one, but I can put our Calphalon pots in the oven, so I usually end up just using my 5-qt saucepan when a recipe calls for dutch oven usage. If I had the space in the kitchen to store it, I'd go for it, but I don't so the Calphalon works for now.

I have three from Le Creuset, a 5.5 quart, 9 quart and a 5 quart braiser. They get more use than anything else in our kitchen. You can find them at TJ Maxx every so often. I'm tempted to buy more because I love them so much, not because we need them.

As for recipes I use them to make just about everything but my favorite is the NYTimes no-knead bread recipe. Perfect loaves every time. I also use Jamie Oliver's roast chicken recipe a lot. Oh and baked oatmeal in the winter.

So I found one at home goods for like $40 and bought it for myself :) It's ~6qts, Chantal, green enamel. I've only used it once so far. Baked beans. I'm sure I'll use it a ton though.
