@Raindrop: Yeah, I don't think we were that bad in terms of clutter, but still had scope for improvement!

The basic idea is to keep only things that spark joy. Underlying this is a philosophy that your things need to be appreciated and taken good care of, and you can't do that if you have too much stuff. I actually like the idea of showing gratitude towards your stuff, though it may sound a bit cooky, because it's a good reminder to be grateful on a regular basis. Then she has specific tips on how to implement her method. Overall, it's a pretty light and easy read...

@hb3233: Yeah an bunch of my friends have read it and thought it was great... a lot of them had a lot of clutter but a lot of them didn't have that much... but I guess everyone has *some* clutter in their life they can improve on? Sorry I haven't read the book yet so I'm just assuming. :) This book has been recommended to me probably a dozen times but I just haven't had time or desire to read it yet!

When I was single I really liked "he is just not that into you". It was really funny and uplifting! I must have bought 30 copies to give to my friends and family and they all loved it too. :) Luckily I am past that stage is my life.

I used to be kind of skeptical of the genre, and the hype around certain titles. I recently read Marie Kondo's "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up", though, and it really resonated with me. For awhile it had felt just impossible to create space in my life for the things that are most important to me, and the clutter around our house was one manifestation of not being selective enough about what I let into my life. I've de-cluttered following her method pretty intensively and it's awesome. I'm trying to be more selective about what obligations I let into my calendar - and to say no more - as a cluttered calendar is an even bigger mental drain than a cluttered house. Hopefully I can make changes there as well.

I'm curious what has resonated with others...
