I love green juice and have a juicer... but it is expensive (all the organic produce), hard to clean, etc. Sigh. So I don't use it as much as I would like.

@aegie: yah i'll just buy an occasional green juice from a local store. all the veggies they put in... i'm not sure it is much more savings to but it myself!

@Mrs. Bee: I wouldn't get a juicer. I have one and it's SUCH a pain to clean up. carrot juice stains and regardless of how careful you are, juice splatters! It is nice because I can make a big big batch of carrot juice and add in grapes, apples or mangoes to make it sweet, I freeze whatever I think will not get finished and then thaw it out for another day. But you also need SO SO SO many carrots for very little juice. So I guess if you're REALLY REALLY into juicing, and can maintain it as a way of life, I'd consider it, but ours sits on my appliance shelf maybe 48 weeks out of the year.

What I have found that works really well is to get frozen veggies and fruits. Put them into your blender at night. By morning they will have fully thawed out making them super soft when you blend. If you add a little water/yogurt/ice it will turn super liquidy like juice. Even without it, it's fairly juice-ish.

@Mrs. Bee: Oh, right! Good for you guys for the Whole30! I hope it's going really well. I usually switch back and forth between coconut and almond milk, and I like both. :) I hope you find something that works for you.

@mfa_lady: i'm on whole30 right now so the only "milk" we use is homemade almond milk. typically we use flax, coconut or almond milk, but those all have additives that are not whole30 compliant.

@Mrs. Bee: I don't put any water in mine--I usually use some kind of non-dairy milk, which I feel like is a little more "hefty" than just water. :) Another suggestions is if you're using leafy greens, too, blend those up with your liquid of choice before adding in the fresh fruit! The greens turns into liquid in a vitamix like it's nothing--so that could help, too. Good luck!

Yes! DH recently bought an Omega and we love it! It churns out SO much juice and still leaves some pule for the fiber. DH is obessed w/ coming up with new combo's for me to try. This is the only way I'd be getting enough fruits/veggies during pregnancy so it's a lifesaver!

I have a Vitamix that I use for 'juice'. It's not the same as pure juice, but it can get pretty close. Although lately I've been using beets in my smoothies and there's no way to get that pulp to thin out!!

I have a friend with a juicer and we LOVE playing with it! I don't know how often she uses it alone, but whenever we get together (dinners, game nights, etc) she buys a lot of fruits/veggies, and I bring over a lot, and we just go to town making a bunch of different concoctions. It's our alternative to making mixed drinks to cut back on calories (and since I've been pregnant so much lately... hah). So, I think it's a fun toy if you entertain and have friends that would like to participate!

I have a Jack Lalane juicer as well, I got it as a hand me down from my brother. It is such a PITA to clean that it is in a box in the basement. I should really get rid of it.

Once our blender dies, I am going to look into a Vitamix.

@Mrs. Bee: Our Vitamix will totally turn stuff into juice! Even when I try to make a frozen smoothie, if I don't put enough solid stuff, it's way more juicy than smoothie-y. I prefer to do it that way so I'm not losing the protein from the pulp.

I also have a Vitamix and use it as a juicer. I add fruits, veggies and also some water and ice, so it's a thinner consistency in comparison to a smoothie. I love how finely it purees everything.

We have a juicer and a smoothie maker. We hardly EVER, if ever? use the juicer at all. I take my green juice in a very pulsed, loose form. It really just has the consistency of juice with "pulp" rather than a smoothie.

I have a juicer that I loved until I got tired of how messy it is. I now have a blendtec blender and I LOVE it. Juicer doesn't get used anymore. Blendtec has a "whole juice" button and it is pretty much like the juice consistency.
