Both sides of our families are very helpful, but also live far away. But my in-laws and my mother are retired, so if we realllllllly need them, they will fly to us.

Yes we are extremely fortunate - my parents and sisters are nearby and provide the most awesome support. DH works long hours and I don't know what I would do without them.

My inlaws are amazing. They have E three days a week while I work, so we only have to pay for part time daycare. My MIL cooks us dinner once a week at her house. They are available if we ever need them for anything, say E is sick and cant go to daycare or something, but they don't do baby sitting for fun stuff (and we wouldn't expect them to, they do enough).

My mum isn't helpful at all. She doesn't live far away by car (5-10mins) but she doesn't drive and it would take two busses to get here, so she waits for me to visit her or invite her over and pick her up. She wont be left alone with E at all (she says she's "too old"), she has never changed her nappy in 2.5 years and barely interacts with her when we visit, short of giving her biscuits (cookies). I'm really disappointed at how little she is involved.

Yes - we have three sets of grandparents nearby (IL's, My Mom/Step Dad, My dad/girlfriend).

IL's live closest and dont have much social activity in their lives. They are always more than happy to watch K and put her to bed so we can grab dinner. They probably watch her once every two weeks. But they are gone Jan-early April each year (Florida).

My mom is my lifesaver. She will come 2-3 times a week when I am on leave. She is the one who does overnights with K - but not much 2-3 hour sitting bc she lives 45 mins away (rough during rush hour).

My dad is great but is a little "nervous" about putting K to bed. He was a hands off dad when we were younger. His girlfriend is wonderful but has a busier schedule. My dad is great at "watching the monitor" (when we want to go out to a later dinner) or just coming over to play with K when we need a little mid day break!

Both sets of grandparents are far away, so not really. That said, they try to visit frequently and they do offer a lot of emotional support, so there is that.

Zero. My mother barely acknowledges LO's existence. My dad lives thousands of miles away. DH's family is also nearly 1,000 miles away.

Yes! I was sick this week and MIL came over at 7:30 yesterday morning so I could go to urgent care. She left to get some work done while T was napping and came back to help until DH was able to get home from working out of state. That's just one example. So grateful.

My mom is way more helpful than I expected.

Yes, and I'm so so thankful! I WAH and my mom watches DD at our house between 3-5 days a week (and my MIL does the days she can't). Both sides of the family are also very helpful with babysitting for date nights, too.

Yes! My mom is our primary caretaker and my dad comes daily after work to help my mom watch and play w the kids too. Inlaws are also helpful, they've babysat for us and they see the kids once a week usually. We're very thankful for them.

Yes! My mother watches DS one day a week and my MIL watches him one day a week. Both sets of parents are available whenever we need them! So lucky!

Thankfully, yes. My parents are especially helpful. My dad comes once a week (he's at our house now actually) to watch the girls and relieve my husband who stays home with them. He's also available on a last minute basis if something happens or comes up. The girls absolutely love love him and are always asking for their Grandpa. My mom works and is generally asking to watch them on the weekend. My parents attitude is generally that between the two of them, they have us covered. DH also has a sister who is helpful as well.

Yes! My parents actually moved closer to us (not entirely b/c of us) so my mom is super super super helpful. She picks DD up from daycare and watches her till DH gets home, she also watches her another half day, and is our default babysitter.

MIL is helpful too, but they live ~30 min away and don't drive far so we don't ask them for help as much (plus they are busy with my SIL's kids).
