@FutureMrsMcK: We have the same issue in that he loves to be covered and I like to sleep half in and half out of the covers.
He does the tuck in the feet trick but is not working very well. We always play tug of war and he always complains.

I think we need to try your solution!

We keep it pretty traditional for the most part. When one of us is sick, or if DH has had a few too manyh pops he'll sleep in the guest bedroom. Also when LO was a newborn he slept in the spare room until we got the hang of a nightime routine. I didn't want to stress about waking him up when he had to work the next day.

I've suggested having separate covers because DH is such a cover hog. He thinks it's silly :)

Does bickering over who steals the covers more count? Our set up is pretty traditional, except that we both like the room to be really cool so we use really heavy covers.

We use different blankets. Mostly because I like to "cocoon" myself in them. A sleeping bag would work too!

DH and I have separate covers. He's too tall for our bed (and we won't upgrade until we buy a house), so his feet always stick off the end and get cold. One solution is to tuck the comforter into the end of the bed, but I can't stand my feet being covered at night, so he started sleeping in his sleeping bag and I use our big comforter.

It's nice because we're not constantly playing tug of war with one big comforter, and I don't have to listen to him bitch about how cold his feet are (I know how terribly unfair that is of me to say, sorry).
