I have one because it's required. I saw her once for a yearly physical and she didn't really do much. I think if you have a lot of different medicationss or need serious care, then having a PCP makes sense because they would coordinate your care with any specialist you see but for fairly healthy people not on medications or anything I don't think the need is as great.

I have a PCP because it is required by my hospital. I've only seen her once, I usually just see the nurse practitioner or go to the urgent care clinic after hours at the hospital.

I don't, but I need one. We've moved a lot recently, and the last place we were wouldn't cover a PCP. So, I've been coordinating a lot of care on my own, with some help from my OB/GYN. I do need to get to one, though...it will make life so much easier!

I do, but I can't say I'm a huge fan of her. She's a little on the older side and is quick to prescribe medication when I don't think it's necessary. I'm definitely in the hunt for a new one.

I do think it's important to have a PCP though coordinating your care. I have a few different issues that were happening all at once (pregnant with GD and a kidney issue) and while my OBGYN referred me to an endocrinologist, my PCP received all of that info and made sure that I was continuing with all of my appointments. Not only that, but I also like knowing that if I do feel sick, I can call and make an appointment with someone rather than going to an urgent care that doesn't have all of my records.

I don't. I don't know the last time I went to a Dr. besides my annual lady check-up and pregnancy related stuff... Probably middle school when I had to get booster shots?

Yup! That's who I go to for any dr appointments if I'm not feeling well or if I need an annual physical exam. It's just easier to have a PCP because they have all my medical records on file.

I do, though she was also my GYN. So I mostly saw her for annual well woman exams but she is a PCP so I could also go to her when I'm sick. I haven't been in a long time since she doesn't do OB and I go to a different midwife practice for that but I'm still a patient, so would go to her with something unrelated to pregnancy and stuff.

ETA: DH does not have ar egular doctor. He has seen a bunch of specialists for various things, but hasn't been to a pcp in probably about 10 years.

Yes, I have one, because sometimes, you need to see a doctor that specializes in internal medicine. I always make sure I have one, especially when we're healthy, because when you're sick is the last time I want to be in panic mode.

Yes I have one and yes I think she's necessary for me. I have IBS and she helps me keep an eye on that. But in general I think it's good to have a doctor who knows your medical history. For example, even when I'm very sick I hardly ever run a fever so most urgent care places refuses to believe I need an antibiotic when my temp is only 99... My doc knows me and knows that temperature is not a good indicator of illness for me.

I have an ob/ gyn, but not a primary care physician. Less than 5 minutes from my home is an urgent care facility I go to when I feel sick. Last time I went was because of a sore throat. My gynie does my annual Well Woman exams. The only I time I wished I had a PCP was when an ovarian cyst burst and my ob/ gyn wouldn't see me because I was I running a fever. A different urgent care facility thought it was appendicitis and I ended up going to the ER for a littke old cyst. Any hoot, do you have a PCP? Do you think one is really necessary?
