We use a superyard to gate off the television and gates on te doorways. Just an Fyi, if 2 or more pieces are straight it's not really sturdy. We kind of had it bent all over, lol. But a simple hexagon works!

@Foodnerd81: Yes, we have this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006NTY1HK/ref=mp_s_a_1_sc_1?qid=1401392634&sr=8-1-spell&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70

We use it a lot. My co-worker gave it to us so it was free :) We have M's activity table and walker (she plays with the toys on the front of the walker) in it and she's happy to entertain herself. We only use it for short periods of time (like if I'm home alone and need to go to the bathroom or prep dinner). She does start to get whiny if we leave her in there for more than 10-15 minutes at a time.

We have one like the one in the picture. LO hates it, so we just use it to put clothes airers in so she doesn't pull all of our clean laundry onto the floor.

I ended up doing extensive babyproofing in the kitchen instead.

In the house, no. I didn't see the need for it, since we put bumpers on our fireplace and secured other things.

We had a playpen, we borrowed it and it really only ever contained toys. My son hated it.

We have the 4moms play yard and it's hit and miss with DS being happy in it. I find that if I give DS some small cups or lids to bottles to play with instead of his usual toys, it'll keep him pretty occupied so I can take care of biz. In the event it doesn't, I put him the walker in the kitchen with me. He's not a fan of the walker, but he's standing (which he loves), and I entertain him by talking/making faces/singing/whatever goofy thing it takes to keep him happy while I cook and clean.

@Foodnerd81: we had that and used it for a good amount of time. We bought it used off Craigslist and then sold it back for the same price. :) It was a huge help not only to keep her contained but to keep the dogs away from her, too. It is very sturdy and you can set it up so many ways. We did a circle, an oval around the couch, straight to gate off the family room, etc. We had the XT Gate.

Do you have a gate or play yard thing as a safe place for your LO to play? We are gradually baby proofing our home and for the most part, trying to just remove/block the major hazards (locks on dangerous cabinets, cushion on sharp corners, close the doors to rooms I don't want her in). And so far she is pretty good about playing with her toys while I get dinner ready or whatever. But sometimes she just wants to crawl over to me in the kitchen, or get into the dogs bowls, or smack her reflection in the oven door (yeah, that one is new), and if I'm cooking and have dirty hands, it's very difficult to stop her. Having a safe place to pen her in would be nice, so we are thinking of getting a gated play yard thing, like this one. Anyone else?

For now I put her in the jumperoo if I really need to keep her out of the kitchen but I don't want her to see it as a punishment.

Oh, and we have an open kitchen living room area, with a big island separating it, so I can supervise her from the kitchen easily, but cannot easily gate it off.
