@Grace: We use the same kind!

We use one! Our house is old and has like 4 different additions so it doesn't heat the same. LO's room is the coldest- so he gets a little heater! It worked fine last year and so far has been ok this year.

We used one last winter on really cold nights. Never had a problem! We just made sure it was on a high shelf and that the cord wasn't exposed.

@Mae: Yup we use one. Our house is tiny and cold, so we had to get one for LO when he transitioned to his own room a year ago. It does make me a little nervous, but has always been fine. Last winter I always kept his room door cracked, but now I'm a little more comfortable wit it so we keep door closed (his room is right next to our only bathroom).

I use one. I got the oil-filled kind with no fan. The old-school one that looks like a rad. It's supposed to be the safest because it stays cool to the touch. Worked really well once we figured out which setting to use.

I haven't used a space heater but my friend does and has had no issues.

But, to the cold hands thing, C used to have cold hands and feet too, even in the Merlin. I read it was normal and as long as her chest and belly were warm, not to worry about it. C seems to prefer sleeping in a cooler room (just like Dh and I do).

@Maysprout: Our LO actually usually does NOT have cold/hands feet-- only in the morning! But I think it is because the last hour or two of sleep in the morning is always restless and I think she chews on her hands so they are wet and get really cold.

@Mae: Our first was a summer baby and her hands were always cold unless it was HOT. The dr said as long as her body was warm it was fine. I put socks on her hands when she was very little before she could pull or try to bite them off. Our 2nd never had cold hands even as a late fall newborn.

@catomd00: carbon monoxide doesn't come from electric appliances (but there is one right outside her door regardless)

@Mrs. D: I'm paranoid about energy costs so we will definitely turn it off during the day!

@Maysprout: what about her hands? Even right now in our room (which is 68) in a fleece sleeper + merlin suit (which is like a snow suit lol) she wakes up with super cold hands. I already feel badly about that but I figure as long as the rest of her is warm and she doesn't seem bothered by it, I guess it is ok? :/

@winniebee: @rattles: thank you!

We used one the last two winters. We had one that got recalled (a vornado) so just beware of that!

We just kept a good sleeper on LO and our house is usually around 62 in the winter. So if the space heater doesn't work out, a nice sleeper can work too.

We do, our house is poorly designed, and the bedrooms are in the basement. We have heaters in her room and ours. Ours is stronger because we can get up and turn it off. we've been using it since mid-winter last year. You just have to remember to turn it off or flip over in the morning so it can turn off and have a rest for the day.

Our furnace broke last winter and took forever to replace and we lived off space heaters for 2 months straight. No bAby but I was pregnant. It was fine! Get carbon monoxide detector for her room if you don't already!

We are moving LO to her room tomorrow and I'm being nervous about it for a lot of reasons. One new one that popped into my mind tonight is that we'll need to use a space heater in her room. Our house is oddly shaped and for some reason just doesn't heat evenly so even though it is comfortable throughout most of the house, LO's room is 63 degrees. To get it up to 67 or 68 I think we'd have to bake the rest of our house.

So I bought a space heater that got good reviews on amazon. You set an actual temperature, it isn't just a low/med/high type thing. It turns off when the right temperature is reached. It circulates air for even room heating. It has a tip-over safety thing where it turns off if not all 4 feet are on the ground (I tested it-- it immediately shuts off). It stays cool to the touch. And I have it about 10 feet from LO's crib and about 2 feet from anything else (wall/curtain/furniture/etc). We're running it tonight and going to check in on it a few times to make sure that it is functioning correctly and doesn't get the room too hot. And of course there are smoke detectors (one in LO's room, one immediately outside of her room, another one about 15 feet down the hallway, and ones in both of the other bedrooms upstairs).

So... we're okay.. right? I feel like I'm just being so super paranoid about this. Tell me that you have a space heater in your baby's room and it is FINE. Thanks :)
