We have an earthquake backpack under the bed and packs in each of our trunks. They have 1st aid, water, flashlight, radio and some food. </p> <p>Our plan is to call a relative on the east coast (so when phone lines are locked up locally) and tel them our location and if we're okay. That relative tells anyone else the news. I really need to keep water, non-perishables, and a weather radio. If a hurricane is approaching I usually stock up, but I'm bad about being prepared in general. We were on a tornado watch last night &amp; I made Mr. jump Rope go over the plan with me several times! </p> <p>Our emergency kit has bottled water, non-perishable food, batteries, a lighter, candles, several flashlights, and a wind-up lantern that also has an am/fm radio built in. We never really get that sort of weather -- hurricanes, yes; tornadoes, no. We huddled in the bathroom, our only room without a window, and I felt very unprepared. </p> <p>It looks like another huge storm is headed our way tonight &amp; it's already knocked out power and done damage in western VA. With this storm approaching and the yearly hurricane we get, I decided today that I need to put together a storm/disaster preparedness kit. So far I have a battery powered lantern, batteries, and bottled water. </p> <p>If you have a kit, what's in it? What other things should I add? </p>
