@Andrea: that could work - thanks! I'll use those strictly for juice! Already M loves flailing her spoon and mesh feeder around. So giving her a cup without a secured lid will just be a mess!

@regberadaisy: yup, regular straws and I cut them so that they are the right size for a kid's cup.

@regberadaisy: I reuse the Take and Toss cups for a few months. They are BPA free.

Hmmm thanks @Andrea: @chopsuey119: . I was really hoping for something reusable. Maybe I'll get the zoli or lolla and use strictly for water.

@regberadaisy: nope! We didn't use them for that long. Then we went to Lollacup and they are easier to clean but I didn't think they were great either and I stopped using it. Honestly, I think the really cheap Take and Toss straw cups are the best thing. There will be more spillage in the beginning, when she is learning, but there is nothing to clean because I put in a new plastic straw every time we use it.

@regberadaisy: i gave M juice in her zoli and didn't wash right away.. the juice ended up drying in the straw and I couldn't wash it away for the life of me. (I didn't buy a zoli specific brush though).
I didn't use the lollacup, but I've heard that it's easier to clean since it comes with a little brush for the straw.
I found that it was less of a hassel to just give LO a cup with a straw. Or a sippy.

I did love the Zoli when we first started using it though! LO loved it too.

@Andrea: do you think you got your money's worth??
@chopsuey119: why do you have to wash immediately if using for anything other than water? I'm thinking eventually I will occasionally give 90/10 water/100% juice. Also didn't you use the lollacup too at some point? Which did you like more?

I had 2, but if you put anything other than water in it, you need to wash it right away and it's a bit of a pain.
We used ours for a couple months and I ended up tossing them.
Now Lo just drinks from a regular cup, sippy and cup with straw

Zoli cup was the only cup/bottle/anything(!) my little guy would use when we tried to add in other liquids besides nursing. He figured it out immediately. We haven't had any issues with cleaning/etc. We have had problems with lots of leaking. It doesn't fit perfectly in the drink pocket of my diaper bag, and I lost one that way, so now I always double check to make sure it's in there securely.

I really liked it but it has leaking issues after a while. They told me to replace the straws, which I did, but that didn't fix it for long.

I just bought one a few days ago, LO took to it right away. Other straw cups were bringing up too much liquid and he would let it all dribble out. We have only been using for a few days so it hasn't been dropped yet. I have a dr brown straw brush that works on it, and I have also run it through dishwasher. The weighted straw thing that lets them hold it upside down and still get liquid is ingenious. Thinking of getting another one!

The straw is great, very soft and flexible. LO started using the cup a little before 6 months and got the hang of it pretty quickly.

I'm not sure how durable it is though! We'll soon find out.

We have the zoli cup and it's awesome.

We have dropped it multiple times, still going strong no durability issues.

I bought the Oxo sippy cup cleaners to keep it clean, works like a charm to get the straw clean

The straw is soft silicone, bendy and squishy, no poking hazards at all

We started it at 6 months. At first she just kept gnawing on the straw, then I blew into it so that the straw filled up with water, as soon as she gnawed on it she realized that there was water in there and learned to drink from it. Now she's a total pro

Here is a pic of the Oxo thingies

Leaning towards starting M with a straw cup rather than traditional sippy cup.
For those that have one:
How durable is it?
Do you need special equipment to clean properly?
How's the size of the straw? My husband is afraid of m poking herself.
When did you start using it?

Thanks!
