It gets a little dusty at the top but that's easy to wipe off. We don't really touch it all that much, since we sleep on pillows and if we were sitting in bed we'd have a pillow propped against it - so it's held up beautifully. I wouldn't worry about sweaty kind of dirt, we don't actually lean against it too often (we sit mostly against pillows). It does get kind of dusty but nothing a vacuum or lint brush can't take care of.
