One I am not fond of because I think he is too young (early 20's). He works with 3 year olds but some of the mom's of girls in the classroom's have said to me they don't feel comfortable with him handling bathroom issues if they need help. We have 3 male teachers & 4 female teachers. I LOVVVEEEE the mix of teachers, and how they each bring different personalities into the mix. He works with the 2 year olds. He's the only one I saw at the 5 daycares we toured. My husband and I often talk about how we actually think that men are more limited in career possibilities than women are these days. There are tons of professions that have very few men or that men get ridiculed for choosing (early education, nursing, admin). It's something we worry about for our son. (he covers lunches, potty breaks, sick days...doesn't lead his own room). Luckily, he works in the toddler rooms because my son loves him! She had one in her class and just adored him. I think it helped her to transition to school since DH is a SAHD. This teacher has since resigned to be a SAHD himself. There has been one in the past of the afterschool older kids program. And at the elementary? As far as I know there is only one - the art teacher. I find it really interesting, because he's doing 9 months of compulsory civic service instead of 6 months of compulsory military service. I've seen a number of young men working with daycare kids when the kids are at the park or on field trips, and I assume most of them are also doing their civic service. His original teacher put in her notice two weeks before the start of school, and they were in a scramble to find a replacement. He only lasted 3 weeks and stepped down due to responsibilities at home. He was an interested teacher with different teaching methods. Tbh I was kind of weirded out at first wondering why an average late twenty yr old guy would want to teach crazy little toddlers all day long, but they've been sooooo great. I've been really impressed with them. My son has one of them in his class and he talks about him constantly. In the summer they do have 1 male teacher which again all the kids love. Def a huge lack of men! DD is still in the toddler room so we never had him as a teacher. The teachers are now all female, although there is a male cook and the musician who comes in every week is also a guy.
