We have DD practice floating on her back. She learned how to float in swimming lessons and loves practicing swimming in the tub.

We lean him back and use the shower head. I wish my LO was more comfortable with getting water in his face, but he absolutely hates it.

Believe it or not, having then lean all the way forward (chin to chest) works really well. Other times I will give them a rolled up damp wash cloth to put over their eyes- because it is already wet they don't get as mad if water gets on it when you pour water over them.

You can also start giving him showers, a lot of kids don't mind them as much as you would think.

We just ask him to tilt his head back. In the beginning he didn't always listen, so we'd pour water anyway and he'd get water in his eyes. So now he'll tilt his head when we ask. I don't mind getting him used to the water. It helped him be comfortable putting his head in the water in the pool.

I've been doing the hand-on-forehead thing and pouring water back. Now mind you, my DS seems to have gotten my extra-large forehead, which helps in this matter as well.

Right now I hold her in a football hold while I wash her hair so that the water doesn't get on her face. I think I'll start pouring it over her head in the bath though... I'm scared b/c she hates water touching her face.

We roll up a washcloth and hold it on her forehead just below her hairline and behind her ears so water doesnt get into her eyes or ears. Works great!

Our LO used to just lay down for us to rinse, now we just quickly dump water over his head with a cup. Not his favorite, or our favorite, but it works.

@lemondrop: We have that too, but alas we can't use it because the cup heading for his face freaks him out more than the water pouring over his eyes. Haha.

We just use the showerhead and let the water run over his face. He's used to it now, but he hated it before. But it's kind of a necessity because he very often has discharge on his eyelashes... his bottom lashes poke into his eyes and cause a lot of tearing, especially when he's congested. The only really effective way to wash it all off is to really soak it with warm water. So we had to get him used to water on his face / in his eyes very early.

With LMW, we use the rinse cup as just a cup and pour it over her head. I pour it over one side of the head at a time, blocking that ear as I pour. She doesn't like the feeling and squirms, but I think she's already getting used to it too because she doesn't cry anymore.

We put our hands at her hairline and just pour water over her head. They sell bath visors too. Haha
She gets a little crazy when the water gets on her face, but gets over it really quick as long as we wipe it away

I've been using a hand held shower head to rinse her hair since her first real bath and she doesn't mind water in her face. She closes her eyes when she sees the shower head!

My MIL got us this: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=12302315

This rinse cup has a divet that fits up against the forehead so water doesn't get in their eyes. I love ours, as a kid it was always one of my biggest fears!

My big worry is avoiding getting soap in his eyes. We started conditioning him for going under in swimming lessons by saying "1, 2, 3, Under!" and sprinkling water over his face so he would start holding his breath- so he doesn't really mind water going in his face.

that's what I did as a kid, I leaned back and rinsed my hair...

I'm starting DS young with just pouring the water over his head haha he doesn't seem to mind so much so hopefully when he is three he won't either.

I used to just tell Charlie to cover his eyes, and then pour water over his head. He loved that! Ummm, maybe not.

Then Bee taught me that I could put him on my lap in the tub, and lean him back... then very carefully, pour water over his hair so that it doesn't get in his eyes. That worked great for a while! But now he hates it when I force him to lean back while in my lap... so I kind of have to force it.
