The cartilage behind my knee caps on both knees harden like bone, so they start to grind and cause pain. Every few years I've had to go and get them scoped out and smoothed down so it doesn't grind. I've had 4 surgeries in 10 years. Doctors can't explain it, says it's very rare. I'll most likely get my knees replaced in my 40s/50s to prevent this.

I have to be careful in what exercises I do, lunges/squats are out of the question, and running just is comical.

@travellingbee: i had a friend in elementary school who was allergic to cold (she would break out in hives too) and she also had to deal with people looking at her like she was crazy. And she was sometimes perceived as getting "special treatment" because she got to stay inside at recess and lunch in the winter as needed. Since I was her BFF though, I often got to stay inside with her to keep her company so I was happy :). I don't know if she still has it, but will ask her the next time we speak, i am curious now. I also have a patient at work who is allergic to the cold.

@ladybee: I think I have this too! Not diagnosed though. I have issues with body temp. And when I'm cold I turn blue. Or when I'm hot my hands turn red. I also have wrinkles on the tips of my fingers like they've been under water for so long but they weren't. It look disgusting and makes me feel so old.

I have FND ( functional neurological disorder) which is /was known as conversion disorder ! This is relatively knew to me as recently diagnosed. Was in a car accident in oct 2013 and developed anxiety/ severe panic attacks which led to FND. They say it's a psychogenic condition but I beg to differ. Symptoms are, paralysis through my whole body starting from my neck, essential tremors, loss of voice, weakness, I turn blue, I feel ice cold then few hours later will turn to burning like fire, heaviness, sometimes I feel like I'm stuck in my own body. Very hard to understand and explain. Am still learning to accept this condition.

@photojane: I believe I have this. I've never been to a Dr to confirm. I get it on my upper arms and thighs. I've heard from others that also haven't been able to get rid of it so I've dragged my feet going to the dermatologist.

@MrsHoneyC: I'm 30 and no LOs yet for me, currently working on it. I was 24 or 25 when I was diagnosed. I'm not sure how many others there are besides us 4 but I'd join a Graves thread for people with questions

Raynaud's Syndrome. My understanding is that when I'm cool or cold my blood constricts to my core so my nose, fingers, toes, and lips turn purple and go numb. I feel like it makes my chest hurt but that could be in my head lol. Not life threatening. I'm in Ohio so winters are cold, I just need to bundle.

I have keratosis pilaris. It's when your body makes excess keratin that clogs your pores, and results in little white/red bumps. Some people have it all over, but I only have it on my upper arms. "They" say it's treatable, but I've never been able to get rid of it. I used to be self-conscious about it, but it really doesn't bother me at all anymore.

I have ichthyosis vulgaris, which is a genetic skin disease. Basically my body doesn't shed dead skin cells on its own like most people's do, so dead skin builds up. There is no cure and no real treatment-- just lots of exfoliation and lotion. Mostly it just looks to people like I have dry skin and don't manage it terribly well (which is just somewhat annoying bc I DO... it would be far far worse if I didn't!). The worst part is that my hands and feet crack and bleed a lot. The best thing for me is getting professional pedicures as often as possible because it is really hard to stay on top of at home, but it's super annoying because literally every single time I go the nail tech is like "ummm you should try putting lotion on your feet" and I don't want to get into the whole thing of "ummm I do like three times per day but I have a genetic skin condition" because that's annoying so I just smile and nod. So yea. It's somewhat painful where my hands and feet are constantly cracked but otherwise just slightly embarrassing and annoying.

@MrsHoneyC: @MamaPhoenix: @sandy: I also have Graves disease. Luckily I was able to take methimazole to get it into remission. I'm always worried it will come back but it's been about 2 years now so I'm hoping it stays that way for awhile.

I have had Graves' disease (and autoimmune disease) since I was 12 years old. I had a total thyroidectomy 5 years ago. It's usually a disease for people mostly women 30-50 years old.

Fun fact : it's the same disease that singers SIA and missy Elliot have.

Sebborhic dermatitis over here. Causes dry scaly patches usually on my scalp ears and eyebrows. I can control it really well usually but when I'm pregnant it's always a bit harder because I get it around my hairline in the front. It went away though a bit after birth last time so I'm hoping it will once again.

@jedeve: I have IC too. Mine is in remission after having my baby, but this morning I'm having symptoms. I feel it sneaking back in. :( I feel for you. It's so hard to explain to people, and whenever you say "bladder condition", I'm sure people think I just pee myself. I wish. The pain is horrible. :(

Have you done any of the treatments with the catheter medication? I was due to start it the day I got my BFP, but the doctor decided to hold off.

I also have chilblains/pernio, which is essentially like spots of frost bite on my feet. It's a circulation issue. I had vasospasms in my nipples after baby was born, and I think this is all related. Blah.

@travellingbee: I swear by 10mg Zyrtec. I actually buy the generic at Costco, where 300 tablets costs the same as 15 of the name brand. Claritin doesn't do much for me. And Zyrtec is safe for pregnancy and breastfeeding! I will rarely still get hives if I get SUPER COLD, usually on my knuckles and elbows, sometimes my neck, but they subside quickly if I warm up.

@travellingbee: @mrbee: @mrs. Microscope: wow! I've never met anyone else allergic to the cold like me! Until I was about 20. I got horrible hives all over my body when I was a child exposed to even a slight temperature drop, like getting out of a pool. I felt like an absolute circus sideshow. As a teen it tapered down to hives on my joints (knuckles, knees, elbows, wrists) when exposed to very cold air or water, and now in my early 30s I don't get them at all. I thought that they might come back in pregnancy, but they didn't. Though to be fair I lived in a really warm place while pregnant with both girls.

Oddly, in her 40s my older sister has started to get them. She was never allergic to the cold before this.

Most people get cold sores on their mouth, I get them on my cornea! Thankfully I've only had it three times but it has caused scarring on my cornea and could potentially lead to major eye problems later in life. My opthamalogist has me on an anti viral for the foreseeable future to hopefully prevent any more outbreaks.
