More for our convenience than safety, but we hate off the living room from the entry way so we can leave things like the open recycling bin out there. We don't always close it these days but it's nice to have the option. No stairs in our condo.

We do but LO is 3.5 and we also have a newborn in our ranch house so we only use them for the dog.

We only use ours at night now. she's 3.5, so its more for my peace of mind than anything else. At our last place it was EXTREMELY easy to open our doors from the inside, even when locked, and so we did it as a precaution to prevent her from wandering outside while we slept. We still use i here at night mostky to prevent her from helping herself to "breakfast" while we're asleep or in the shower. Her idea of "breakfast" varies daily, bu most mornings she asks for some variation of candy..... so the gate remains up!

we lived in a one floor apartment when DS was 0-23 months old, so didn't need baby gates. we haven't had to use them at our house since both the kids are good with stairs.

Definitely. Baby sister is far more developed physically than mentally. She was climbing the stairs at seven months and she certainly didn't know how to come down gracefully.

No baby gates! At this point (22 months), I just don't see a reason to.

We actually never used baby gates. LO is THE most cautious child in the world so she never even attempted to climb the stairs. Like, ever. At 3.5 she still refuses to go up/down stairs unless someone is holding her hands! :silly:

No we never used them.we have a flight of 15 stairs that is carpeted but she's always done great with them. When she was younger she would never go down alone, but now that she's older (21 mos) she is very careful when she goes alone.

We have one at the top of the stairs from upstairs to the main level, and one in the hallway that blocks off the kitchen/living room from the rest of the house. Lately we only use the one at the top of the stairs, and only when B gets up early and wants to run around and we don't want to get out of bed yet.

we have one in front of our kitchen entry and one in front of our foyer/entry way because my 2 year old likes to try to run out the door! I had one huge one in front of our fireplace too but since we never actually put a fire in, hubby took it down and we're mostly working on just telling her to stay off the surround so she doesn't trip and fall on it.

I'm all about baby gates so that I don't have to baby proof much

We have a few more months of baby gate time. We have a multilevel house and there's about 6 steps from the main living area down to the family room. Then another 6 from the main living up to the bedrooms. We have a gate set up at the top of the stairs going down to the family room. The 15m old is never unsupervised up on the bedroom level so we have no gates up there.
