House came with nice wide white wooden blinds and ugly curtains, so I've upgraded the curtains. I would like to get those honeycomb shades that go up and down without cords though, someday. I hate the cords, and we've actually had one break because the blinds are so heavy. Our previous home's owner paid for expensive, nice, custom blinds and left them in (we got REALLY lucky) but they had outdated, ugly curtains. So we updated those. In the living room they help block the light when the sun is coming in and created a huge glare on the TV. The kitchen just has a valance. The bedrooms have darkening curtains. I don't think both are usually necessary though. Although, we have a lot of neighbors so it's necessary. Our new house will need window coverings but I think I want to go with curtains because the house has views that I don't want to be covered at all times. How did you decide which to go with?
