Yup! We have the nicer/comfier car seats in my car since I do pickup and dropoff, and most of the hauling the kiddos around.

We have cheap/traveling car seats in DH's car. DS doesn't complain about it, but it's definitely not as comfy. We don't take DH's care often and the car seat is used mainly for when we travel since it's light.

Currently we have 1 fwd-facing convertible in both my and DH's car. LO2 still fits in the infant bucket seat, so we have the base in my car and just use the seatbelt if we ever (rarely) need her in DH's. I SAH so do all of the carting around during the week.

As soon as LO2 outgrows the bucket (soon!), we'll have her in the Chicco Nextfit rear-facing and LO1 in a Diono R120 fwd-facing in my car. I don't think we'll put the other convertible into DH's car, since he doesn't routinely drive the kid(s) around in his car (and when he does he could probably just use mine instead). Maybe we'd install it fwd-facing once LO1 outgrows the LATCH. I think LATCH installs are easy enough that I'm fine with just swapping carseats around as needed.

I don't really forsee any circumstance where one of us would be dropping both off somewhere and the other would be picking both up in the other car.

We have two "good" seats in my car and one convertible that we got as a gift that I don't like in his car.
Once #3 is here there is no way they can all go in his car so I'm not bothering with another seat for him now.

We don't have the same seat in each car, we have 4 different seats in 4 cars, but they're all either Graco or Britax seats. I can't tell the difference in just looking at them which is which, to be honest, I think you get a lot of bang for your buck from the Graco brand.

Yep! The one that I only use to transport my LO home from daycare (less than 1 mile) is not nearly as fancy, but having it is a life-saver.

@Bao: The Cosco Scenera is a cheap seat that will allow rear-facing for a while, but probably doesn't have a long forward-facing life-span...

@Bao: I'm not sure...we have Diono Radians so far. I think Evenflow Tribute is supposed to be a comparable cheaper seat, but I'm not sure about limits and such.

@sunny: @winniebee: @Adira: we have the Graco Argos for our "nice" ones, for LO1 any recommendations for cheaper ones that will last as they grow? LO2 isn't ready to forward face yet but thinking ahead...

I agree with @sunny. If they are rarely going to be in his car, get two cheaper ones.

We have four seats total (for 2 kids) - two for my car and two for his, but he does daycare drop off and I do pick-up, so they are in each car an equal amount of time, so we got the same car seats for everyone.

I'm in a similar situation -- I need to buy 2 new convertibles. I think I'm just going to take the nice seat from my husband's car and then have the 2 nice seats in my car and buy 2 cheaper seats for his car. The kids ride in his car every weekend though.

If your LO barely goes in DH's car, I'd just put the 2 cheap seats in his car.

If you and your DH have your own cars, do you have a car seat for each LO in both? I have two car seats in mine and DH has two car seats in his. We have to get LO2 a new car seat within the next few months though (I hate the ones she has) but that means we need to buy two of them. She goes in DH's car maybe 1-2 times per month so I cringe at having to buy a car seat that she will barely use.

We currently have a cheaper one for LO2 in his car and a nice one for LO1. I'm wondering if it makes more sense to use the other good car seat from DH's car in my car for LO2, and but two "cheaper" car seats for his car. However, car seats that are a pain to work with drive me insane so maybe splurging on the ones I love is worth it, no matter how much use it gets. Anyway, thoughts? What is your situation if you have car seats in both cars, types/use etc....
