I have the bumpers in the crib. I've had them up since DS was about 8 months and he was knocking his head against the rails., much like geekinheels's daughter. This is one of those things that I did out of desperation, the mesh bumpers work for keeping the limbs in the crib, but don't help on the head knocking.

Claire slept in a bassinet until she was about 3 months old, and when we transitioned her to her crib we had the regular bumpers...and they've stayed on since. I know what the AAP recommends, and I know that we have the option of breathable bumpers, but she is such a violent sleeper (gets this from her dad...apparently he used to KNOCK OVER his crib!) that she NEEDS the cushioning, or she will hurt herself against the railings.

She also sleeps with a blanket, and she has 3 stuffed animals in her crib. These were all added at about 7-8 months, when I felt she was old enough not to suffocate from them.

We have breathable bumpers. However, I am a naughty, naughty mommy put blankets in... and right now my 22 month old is sleeping on a full size pillow with a fleece blanket wadded up down at the end of the crib. I waited quite a while before putting in the blankets though, till she was old enough when I knew she would flail them off (and she always has...).

We don't have any. Finn will sometimes stick an arm or leg out of his crib, but it doesn't bother him (or us).

We do have bumpers. We needed something because our son kept getting his legs stuck in between the slats of his crib and it was ruining his night time sleep. We happened to have them around because they came with a set I bought so I threw them on the crib. He started sleeping snuggled next to them, like they are his lovey, so I don't want to take them away from him and I feel like he's old enough that we are safe.

I've seen some mesh bumpers that I wouldn't mind using, but I can't see us using any non-breathable ones. I am not comfortable with the risk factor.

I know the recommendations but we put bumpers on her crib when she was about 4.5 months old. She was banging her head against the railings and getting her arms and legs stuck in between. She was already rolling both ways in her sleep and had slept with a lovey with no problem so I felt comfortable that if they became a problem she would either cry or roll away from them.

we also have breathable bumpers (from 5 months on) because charlie would get his arms/legs stuck in the slats. i removed them recently and he hasn't had any problems. i wish there were a cuter alternative!

We use the breathable bumper which I think is fine. Now my daughter loves to snuggle against it so I think the bumper has become her lovey!

We didn't have anything other than a fitted sheet in the beginning, but Max kept sticking his arms and legs in the slats of his crib so we put on a breathable bumper. He still sleeps in a sleepsack but now that he's bigger (14 months) we also put some stuffed animals and a small blanket in there.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends against bumpers because they increase the risk of SIDS. I was so afraid of pretty much everything that Charlie has never had anything in his crib. He's slept in a sleep sack until now, and he's never even had a lovey (but that was just because he uses the onesie that he wears for every bedtime as his lovey).

I bought bumpers for Olive and was going to use them until she started moving, but I never got around to putting them on.

Are you or did you use bumpers? Did you ever take them off at some point?
