We also have yard waste collection every other week from spring to autumn. But you could take recycling to the landfill for free (you just had to tell them your zip code). It was kind of a pain but we still recycled because we just couldn't throw away recycling. We even have a rewards points system where they'll scan a barcode on our recycling can, and the truck weighs it as it picks it up to dump it into the truck. We then get points based on the weight of recycling we have.
