DH had a medical crisis a little less than two years ago that makes him ineligible for all life insurance until this November. Even then, it'll be insanely expensive. If we had gotten it done before he would have been able to get a lot of coverage and the price would have remained fixed to pre-incident price. We wanted to lock in really good shape. I also have a supplemental $10,000 policy through work, at no cost to me. I think our policy is about 10 years worth of our income, with mine being a little bit more. I have a term policy and something through work. We applied for DH but he has an asymptomatic heart murmur and that was enough to disqualify him for what we applied for and we haven't figured out what to try next. He's totally healthy and I'm a little annoyed that his murmur was even looked into as it is just an anatomic valve variant and doesn't impact his health. Whatever. We both have life insurance through our employers that pays 1X salary, but the policies we have on our own pay more.
