@deerylou: thanks for this. The fur issue probably won't bother me - in fact, I think I might be more protective of the Calico Critters since they have decent resale value!

@MommySLP: fantastic tip - especially since I'm not seeing Cat Woodzeez, and that's the animal DD wants, of course! Our HG is a tiny little pop up inside a building that houses TJ Maxx and Marshalls, so no toy department, but I'll have family member with better options keep an eye out!

@PinkElephant: don't have experience with the Woodeez, but if you have HomeGoods near you, keep an eye out for Calico Critters in the toy sections. They usually always have the family sets at the store near me & are about 50% off retail.

We have a mix of Calico Critters and Woodeez. I think the fur on our Calico Critter animals are much higher quality. Our Woodeez family isn't falling apart, but their fur seems to wear quicker and their limbs are more stiff. Personally, I don't really care, but I guess some might. I will say that our Woodeez playsets and accessories have held up fine and are super cute. We have the health clinic, farmer's market, bakery, and preschool. The bakery's two tier cake stand snapped after a couple months, but everything else is totally fine and heavily used by DD (2.5). I have been impressed with the quality, considering the very fair price and will continue to purchase the line!

DD1 was really taken with the Calico Critters sets at Barnes & Noble today. We didn't buy any but I glanced at the price on one of the sets of twins/triplets. It was somewhere in the range of $13-$16, which I didn't think was awful....but I just looked on Amazon and saw that the "family" sets are $24.99 and up. I'm not sure I'm keen to spend almost $50 on the first set of figurines considering a lot of the pieces will probably get lost/chewed (she's not 4 yet, and her sister isn't quite 2).

So I'm thinking about the Target version, Lil' Woodzeez. They look cute enough, and are much cheaper, but reviews are mixed. Does anyone have them who can report back on whether your child likes them/how well they've held up?
