We had a Great Dane a few years ago; we adopted him (5 years) from a rescue...long story short, it didn't end well and after a pretty scary aggression issue, he ended up going back to the rescue. You can usually find awesome shelter dogs that don't need housebreaking. </p> <p>We live on the third floor of an apartment building and with our three year old pup and newborn it hasn't been that bad. And even then, going up and downstairs multiple times a day esp in the winter would be such a pain!
