I don't post much on FB these days because of all the ads on that site. I hate that FB owns Instagram but I like how IG is just mainly pictures. I am aware of the possibly of photo piracy and creepy lurkers but we live in a digital age (for now) so I think it can be more helpful than harmful to share informtion. For example, those instant Amber Alerts shared on FB can be so helpful in bringing the kids to safety. All those fundraisers and Go-Fund-Me pages depend on us sharing pictures and information. My site of choice right now is Instagram, no embarrassing pictures that's my only rule.

I don't post much on FB but post tons on IG. I just feel like IG privacy settings are more transparent and easier to maintain control of without any secret loopholes. I am not terribly worried about it though because I do post with care.

I'm pretty laid back.

But once my sister posted a pic of dd making a funny face...then she saw that one of her random FB friends stole the pic and used it with the caption "how I feel about my exams tomorrow". It was really weird. She took it down after my sister asked her. I think she must have thought it was a meme or something ??

I don't post any photos of DD on FB, but I do on IG. I'm private on there and make sure DH, my sister and mom who also post pics of her are private. But I've been thinking about not posting pics of her on there either. Because of privacy, but I also want her to be able to determine if she wants a "presence" online...

I do have a private photo sharing account that is very limited, but I don't upload photos to my computer often enough to use that. I like the convenience of IG....

So I voted snow cones, because I post to some social media but not all.

I don't post to FB or Twitter (I still have accounts but only go on once in awhile to see what others are up to) and don't have Instagram. I do have a private online photo site so our faraway family can see pictures of LO, but I'm comfortable with the security and TOS there. DH has Instagram and does sometimes post photos of LO, which I'm not crazy about, but he's careful about what photos he posts so it's not worth fighting about. It's funny because he's usually the more anti-technology one, but when it comes to photos of LO I'm more cautious than he is.

Same as @avivoca. I don't post a ton of pictures on Facebook of LO and I am more selective about them. I really need to just clean out my Facebook friends.

My IG is private and I am selective about followers so I post more there.

We have family members that post pictures of LO on Facebook. I am not always crazy about it depending on the situation, but I haven't said anything. I love that they love her and want to show her off.

I have made sure that when folks share my posts, only my friends can see it, because we have had family members we are not close with share pictures of her before and it is a little odd!

@Chillybear: I just spent some time looking at the IG FAQ's... I wonder if when you delete something on IG, it remains part of your profile...just no longer visible to you and friends? :meh:

ETA: Here's the part that seems a little shady (from Rights section ): "None of your Content will be subject to any obligation of confidence on the part of Instagram, and Instagram will not be liable for any use or disclosure of any Content you provide."

@erinpye: That sounds awesome! And, yes, I am one of those people who is freaked out by online banking.

@FliegepilzHut: FB owns IG, so I'd bet the rules about who owns the photos apply the same way in each place.

I post regularly to my IG of my kids. I make sure not to post any photos that contain nudity-- so a bath photo is taken in such a way that the tub covers their bodies.

I live hours and states away from my whole family, and I love taking photos, so it works well to share to IG and occasionally cross post to FB.

I feel like this is the world we live in- a digital one of sharing and connecting over the internet (this forum for example). If you're truly worried about privacy, take it up with the NSA who knows and shares far more about you, without your consent. Sharing photos will either stay the norm, or become obsolete or passé if FB/ IG/ blogging/ social media in general ever does, anyway. I don't share the fear that a lot of people seem to experience when it comes to tech. There was a time when people were terrified to online bank. Maybe I'm naive, or maybe just realistic.

Taking these photos and sharing my mom life has turned into a cool opportunity for me personally, involving a presentation at a big name company in a couple of weeks, so I'm glad I share my photography of my sweet girls.

I kind of feel like facebook gets a bad rap in terms of privacy. I feel like emails with attachments are even more risky, that transmission isn't secure in most cases.

I don't post on Facebook due to privacy concerns. If I think someone would enjoy a picture, I send it to them personally. I think it helps us stay connected better than just blasting everyone with all the pictures all the time.

I've posted pics of DS on Facebook maybe four times. I just feel icked out by sharing photos with near strangers without his knowledge... and too many old Facebook friends are pretty much strangers by now. And even if I restrict who sees the pics, once they're up there it's out of my hands where they can end up.

I've had people steal my pics before. Someone I know once took my dog's photo and made it the cover of her group about pets, without asking first. And once I was on a group vacation, and we all shared our photos on Dropbox when we got home. One guy took all the best ones, and put them on Facebook as his own. Again, without asking. For some reason they both thought I'd be thrilled. So no more photos getting posted where I don't want people borrowing them.

DH posts a bit more often, but he's on another site that's not as popular, and most of his friends live very far away, so it's another story.

I have posted one picture of LO on Facebook however I do post pictures on my IG account.

I really don't like how Facebook has changed over the years in terms of privacy and I don't want her whole life on the Internet. I use it still but I tend to leave her out of it.

Before we had her we had discussed with his family how we don't really want her plastered all over the Internet and they have respected that. My family has posted a few pictures but they stopped that and started using IG also. .

I voted wrong, I voted option 1, but really option 2 is more accurate. We have pictures of LO in diapers only or bath photos of her chest showing. Those don't hit social media. DH did post a graphic post birth photo that I wasn't pleased with. Social media is how most of our family sees LOs. We don't live near any of our family.

I post a pic once or twice per month, mostly so family members who live far away can see her. We had to set rules with SIL, who was posting pictures that we texted or emailed to facebook without asking us (obviously if I wanted them on there, I would have posted them myself!). I think she was offended so she specifically asked if she could post pictures of LO that she had taken herself, and we said yes, so now she takes tons of photos of LO and posts them pretty much every single time we see her. Sigh.

I post very little on social media in general, but I do post pictures of my LO--probably an average of once a month. I have only 18 people on my instagram (all family or close, in person friends), and my Facebook is very very limited. I actually take the trouble to create different groups of everyone on my FB, and I only share posts with certain groups.

I don't do even do this because I'm trying to protect LO, I just do it because I feel like not everyone on FB wants to see my posts about parenting, or my shares about maternity leave, and not everyone wants to see where I just traveled, etc. So I have targeted groups and I only share each post with who I think would appreciate it. LO pictures are only seen by my "close friends" group, "my family" group, and "husband's family" group.

I have every single photo album on my profile blocked to certain friend/family groups, haha.

I try not to post too many pictures on Facebook and I ask that my family does not post tons of pictures either. My private IG is an overload of pictures though, since I can better control who can see them.
