C is 2, and I try to limit it, but most days she watches a 30 minute episode of Daniel Tiger while I get ready in the morning (which is after breakfast and after DH leaves for work). Depending how in feeling and what we are doing that day, sometimes I let her watch another 30 minute episode then or after nap. I try not to ever do more than an hour a day total unless I'm feeling really crappy or it's a rainy day or something.

I almost never let her use my phone because i don't want her asking for it all the time! She gets to use my old iPhone in a big pink case for special occasions- like when she comes to a dr appt with me, on vacation, that kind of thing. I hide it the rest of the time.

She will sit and stare at the entire episode so I try to be conscious of limiting it if she just half watched and played I might care less.

He has no access to iPad or iPhone or computer. He is not allowed to watch TV anytime before lunch/nap. During the week I let him watch while I make dinner- usually about 45 minutes. He's 2.5

DD is 3.5. She's allowed to watch 15-20 minutes in the morning before leaving for school, and then we do a movie or a long show or something in the evening before bed. We all lay on the couch together and just chill between dinner and bed. We don't have cable, so we don't have the TV on in the background or anything most of the time.

C is allowed to use my tablet and play a game on very rare occasions as a special treat. She gets really pissy when we take it away and it usually leads to some kind of fit, so we just don't let her use it often.

dd will be 3 in november. we don't watch on the weekdays since shes at preschool most of the day. we let her watch on the weekends, usually if ds is napping and we're not doing anything. its usually about an hour of "the egg lady" aka funtoyzcollector on youtube (okay, i'll admit, i find it pretty fascinating too! ). sometimes we watch some more after she naps. but we try to go out or do other activities so we're not watching too much. it probably ends up being 2-3 hours on the weekend? we do try to make it more of a reward for good behavior and being dry so she does have to kind of earn it. we don't let her watch if shes tired, or if shes in a bad mood already, bc it usually amplifies it!

Our 2.5 year old gets a decent amount of PBS shows and we don't have specific limits. We scale back when it's causing behavior problems (demanding certain shows - all on dvr) or take it away if he is biting / hitting / screaming (if you hit mommy then Daniel is turned off! -"Daniel on! No biting!" Lol)

He doesn't get the iPad unless we go to the doctor because it leads to horrific meltdowns when we try to stop playing with it or limit use. He could play the Daniel game for 8 hours of we let him.

My sister sent me this article which I'm still reading through but it makes me feel better about our screen time.

The main thing I've tried to institute is no TV first thing in the morning. I make sure she has active and imaginative play first. I've found her behavior is so much better when she doesn't watch TV first thing - that was a suggestion from HB so thanks! :)

We don't have rules, per say but we do limit the amount of screentime. We let her watch some shows in the afternoon if she isn't feeling well or if she earned it. Weekends we are a little more lax. She really doesn't use the tablets or our phones at all.

NO rules, we try to regulate it, but I use it when I cook dinner and she gets to watch 1/2 a show if she gets erady without issues in the morning. Honestly, I think when it becomes too 'regulated" is when kids start to throw fits about it. If it's not such a luxury she doesn't really care, it's more in the background while she's playing something else. I do shut it off if she's watching too much and tell her to "go color, read a book, or play"

No screen time of any kind ~2 hours before bed.

Since DD is only 9 months, we just limit it as much as possible. Currently she only watches fisher prices videos for 10 or so minutes when I get ready in the morning.

We don't really have any set rules, it really depends on how I am feeling that day :silly: We don't do any TV in the mornings on weekdays, but when we get home LO probably watches an hour or so if she didn't nap and just wants to relax before bed.

On days he doesn't nap, he gets 1 hour in the afternoon usually. Or half hour in the morning, half hour in the afternoon. The main rule is that he can't watch any shows until he has eaten breakfast, brushed teeth and gotten dressed--his has drastically improved the way our mornings go!

We don't really have any set rules, but we probably watch about 1-1.5 hours/day on the weekend (and 30 minutes max during the week). We usually watch some TV after a meal (so after breakfast, after lunch, after dinner) and no more than 30 minutes at a time. I also cut off TV by a certain time at night (regardless of how little he may have watched or none at all) in order to have some calm TVless time before bed.

No real rules, because she isn't very much interested in TV. She likes the theme songs and then runs off to play. I kind of wish she liked it more, especially since baby #2 is due any day and it would be nice to have her occupied for 30min.

She is, however, OBSESSED with my phone. She would play on it forever if I let her. I'm trying to limit my use because as soon as she sees it, it's "hold the mommy's phone" over and over :bummed:

Not hard set rules but ds is 3 in November and usually gets 30-1 hour of screen time on the days he gets it. We've been out of the house a lot and he has school three days a week so he's been going without a lot.

LO watches about 20 minutes in the morning in our bed while hubs is getting ready (I've usually already left for work by the time she wakes up). On the weekends we will often have TV on in the background (sports mostly) but she doesn't pay attention to the TV if it's not one of her shows. I don't like the idea of screen time as a "reward". I don't want to make it seem even more desirable to her. We use it when we need it, but I try to keep feelings towards it pretty neutral so it doesn't become something she begs for.

My 3 year old gets to watch TV on weekend mornings- probably more than she should in one sitting, usually 2 hours? No screen time during the week. She doesn't play on phone/iPad unless we are traveling (TV time is not as regulated on vacation/plane/car trips). I find the more she watches, the more entitled she gets, and she's harder to deal with.

What are your rules regarding screen time? Is your LO only allowed X amount per day? Can they only have screen time if they earn it? Or is screen time used as a distraction only during appointments/times you need 5 minutes to make a phone call etc?

We pretty much let LO watch TV when we aren't doing much, however, it's on in the background more than she actually watches it. I would say total throughout the day she actually sits and watches something for an hour or so. I have been making a point to turn the TV to the music station instead since I have to have background noise of some sort.

As far as the phone goes, I will let her use it if I really have to concentrate on something for a few minutes and I need her to not be picking on her sister or asking a million questions. I'll also let her play here and there if she asks or to settle down for a bit.

I think I want to start using screen time a little bit more for rewards. She can do (or not do) certain things to earn her time. I know there's still going to be times where I need her to just chill out and watch a show but I think letting it be more of a privilege could help.

This is for my 3 year old my 1 year old doesn't watch TV or play on the phone yet.
