Yes, he has to be in by 9am because that's when they start their routine for the day. If we have to go to the Dr. etc. we let them know in advance and have never had issues. He's a little older at 20m though.

I often drop her off for an hour or two to run errands - to me, if I pay for the full day I should be able to send her whenever I want.

We can't pick up or drop off during naptime. Yesterday grandma had to wait 30 minutes until the end of nap.

We text and wait for an OK to pick up/drop off during times the kids may be outside. It's an in home day care so if someone is waiting inside to get the door they have to keep 3-4 kids with them. That doesn't go over well with the kids. Legally I suppose we could demand to be let in but they seem to be putting the kids' needs first.

If the kids need to be in by 9am, are their meals subsidised? My daycare gets reimbursed for meals regardless of our income. I think if LO comes late or leaves early they would get less - but they've never mentioned it.

no specific time, although they don't really want the child to be dropped off in the middle of a snack or meal because they haven't had a chance to prepare. i'm guessing they're doing it for ratios.

Our center likes to have the kids there by 9 for curriculum and floater planning, but it's a preference rather than a rule. We rarely get there before 9 and DH picks up whenever he feels like it on the days he's done working early, though.

@jetsa: I don't think they necessarily send them home?
They have several floaters, that go to the classes that have enough kids to warrant two teachers.
These floaters only work PT/occasional hours as they are students. When they are not needed in the classrooms I've seen them doing other things in the center.

@CakeLady: exactly. No matter what you pay for the day, why not just have more teachers than needed and not only that what a crappy deal for the teachers, you're here but we may send you home 2 hours after you come in

They said it was so they can plan the day - which I think means so they can have the right teacher ratios/send teachers home if there aren't enough kids. This still bothers me though, since we are paying tuition I'd rather they pay the teacher and have more hands to take care of the babies.

I don't think it was stated in the policies or if it was it was stated as a preference not a rule... I'll have to check.

During the school year they prefer all kids above 12 months to be dropped off by 9am since that is when the curriculum starts.

However, when kids have drs appts and such I bring them in late and they don't seem to care.

@SeptMomma12: no nap time pickup? That would annoy me. We can pick up whenever we want

Our first daycare had a strict drop off time (besides special exceptions) and they said it was due to the structure of the day. For example, they used to go for a walk in the neighbourhood from 9-10 so kids needed to be there before 9am in order to be with their class (otherwise they would need to be in an unfamiliar room with older kids until their class returned). Our current daycare doesn't mind what time we drop off but we still like to try and stick to 10am at the latest even when we have the day off so that we don't mess things up too much for them. Lunch is a hard time to drop off because they are trying to get all the kids fed and ready for nap (I'm assuming?).

It's a strict rule that we have to have him there by 8:30 if he's going to have breakfast, but they do request that all kids arrive by 9am. I've never had a problem with them being flexible about it though. The only really strict rule is no picking up during nap time between 1 and 3.

We use am in home so everything is pretty flexible, but when dd was in a center as an infant they did want all kids to be there by 9:00. I don't know why? Maybe so they know how many people they have in each room in case workers call off?

We are at an in home and can drop off/pick up at any time we want. I would be annoyed too, it's your child and you are paying, you should be able to use the services whenever you want. I could see if it was going to interrupt naptime or something they might be a little annoyed, but in that case someone could meet you at the door or something so there was less of a chance of waking someone up.

I've had to pick LO up during nap and they just run her outside for me (again small in home with 2 workers) so there's no chance of disrupting the other kids.

That is really weird, especially since he is in the infant program so like you said he isn't missing "school" work or anything. At our daycare as long as you call if things will be different than a normal day, they don't really care when you drop off / pick up.

I think we have to be there by 9:45, specifically if we want him to have the morning snack. Otherwise, I think they are pretty flexible unless there is a planned outing. In the case of doctor appointments, I always let them know that we are going to be late, and it hasn't been a problem.

DH and I are off of work today, but have some errands to run this afternoon. DS's daycare is open today so we figured we'd bring him in at noon so we could get things done but spend the morning as a family. I called daycare to let them know and they gave me a hard time. They said I need to drop him off by 9, but they would make an exception this time.

Is this normal? We pay every week for 5 days regardless of how many days or hours he is there. He is in the infant room so it's not like he is missing out on any curriculum. I'm annoyed.
