Going on BC was great because it forced me to swallow a pill everyday (and we all know how tiny those pills are), but anything bigger than that, I really struggle. Even Advil are a challenge for me. My trick is to take the pill with soda - someone about the fizziness numbs the throat enough to get it down. And actually, my doctor gave me a fantastic tip that has helped a bit. Most people tilt their head back to try to get the pill to go down. When you tilt your head back, your throat actually closes up. </p> <p>He recommended putting your chin to your chest while taking pills. In high school, when I needed a pain killer for my period, I would EAT the pills. No joke. The taste became sort of comforting, I knew relief was coming soon hahaha. </p> <p>It use to take a whole glass of water or more to take a prenatal vitamin with my first pregnancy. With my second I found gummies. </p> <p>I still eat gummies. Then one day I told myself, "no biggie, if I choke I know how to do the Heimlich!" It calmed me down enough to get the pill down instead of resisting it, and I haven't had any problems since.</p> <p>DH admitted to me just last night that pills make him gag every time, and officially started refusing his vitamins. I've had a problem swallowing pills ever since I choked on a piece of ice when I was little--it's purely psychological for me. I have to drink a lot of water before hand and tilt my head back just right.
