The only time I've experienced low energy was during pregnancy when I had (you guessed it): Extremely low iron and b12.

I have no issues with energy level now, and I never exercise and eat terribly :)

I did, in my previous life of being horribly overweight and sedentary. My iron levels were a big part of it, but honestly, exercise was the most important thing. I can't regulate either my mood or my energy levels without regular medium intensity, long duration exercise.

I know that my low energy has to do with low thyroid and low iron. I am taking extra iron with my other supplements. I haven't been cleared to go back on my thyroid supplement yet because I am nursing. So until then I am just destined to be tired.

@Mrs. Bee: I went through a similar stage. Everyone encouraged me to get a physical and ask to have my thyroid checked. By the time I got an appointment I found out I was pregnant so never did the blood work. But worth looking into?

The fatigue episodes were months before my pregnancy so unrelated.

@Mrs. Bee: b12 is definitely tied to energy. Do you drink caffeine? When I cut out caffeine I started sleeping so much better (better quality not necessarily number of hours sleeping) and I noticed I didn't feel so tired during the day. It's like caffeine was a vicious cycle of being tired, drinking coffee...I noticed I had so much more energy when I just cut it out

Yes. I know it's from my poor diet and exercise. Before I was pregnant i had a strict clean diet (with appropriate cheat meals) and exercised regularly and I had so much energy. Now I don't do either and I feel like the junk I've been eating.

I'm pretty exhausted with being a new mom but I think that's only 25% of it.

I've noticed my energy level had declined in the last few years! I never understood why, but then I started going to acupuncture and that did help increase it. But recently I was diagnosed with PCOS and I'm now on metformin and I've noticed a dramatic increase in energy. I wouldn't have noticed if it were for getting my diagnostic test for IVF. This morning it was a bit difficult to wake up but that's because I stayed up so late but I've noticed throughout the day that I have more energy.

I've only been on metformin for less than a week, so I'll see if this energy level continues.

Yes, and having narcolepsy doesn't help. As long as I workout regularly, my energy stays up but I definitely notice it when I haven't worked out in a while.

I was tempted to try Sparx to get an energy boost but, even though it's safe for breastfeeding, I'm going to wait.

I have zero energy. I'm nearly 40 weeks pregnant, have a 19 month old boy and haven't slept well in weeks. The remedy for most of this is to deliver the baby, but that certainly isn't going to improve the sleep situation!

Yes. My energy always comes at the most inconvenient times.

I want to sleep all weekend when my husband is home to help get things done, then have a burst of energy (like today) and want to clean the whole house and move furniture.

I'll be back to tired when he gets home.

@hotchildinthecity: I'm pretty much the same way. As hard as it is working out early, it's done and out of the way.

That said, I do only have one child and my husband gets up with her so I can be at the gym. If I didn't have that support (or if I had additional kids to wrangle) it would be a lot harder.

My mil recently had blood work done & discovered her iron levels were very low. She's taking supplements & goes back for another check in a few months. DH was super tired all the time & we discovered he has an underactive thyroid. He has better energy now that it is regulated.

I was just talking about this issue earlier today.

I think it could be a few things in my case: possible low iron (i've been deficient before), thryorid issues and actually sleeping too much at night. I also need to exercise.

So, I am going to start by taking some iron supplements and going for walks this weekend.

YES. I can hardly believe how little energy I have on a daily basis. I used to be so productive before having a child. I get enough sleep, I am active, and I have a lot to keep me busy (work, school, etc). Like today, I slept in until 9am (glorious) but by 11am I felt ready to go back to sleep. I don't know why I always feel so tired.

I have had so little energy lately. I get an ok amount of sleep. Could be better but not bad. My eating could be better but not too bad. I don't exercise so I obviously need to do that.

I just feel so tired every day and like I want to take a nap every day even if I get enough sleep. Maybe it's just the daily grind of working and having two kids?

Do you have very low energy? What do you think is the cause?

ps - i started taking a multivitamin and vitamin d supplements but it hasn't helped.
