But we live in a more expensive area, so I actually think my parents made more in terms of how much they could save after living expenses (My dad was a pilot for AA and I grew up in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere, West Texas). I'd say we're just as successful as my in laws. However, DH's more financially secure because we are 2 years off from paying off one home and he has multiple homes paid off.
