We are getting panels put up next year or maybe this year (haven't decided yet) and to put up enough panels to cover about 75% of our energy needs (which is all we have space for on the portion of our roof that faces southward, unless we take down bug old trees in our yard) will be under $15k. There is a 30% tax rebate, so your out of pocket is more like 10k. The start up costs are very expensive, but the government has so many rebates/tax cuts/etc... that sometimes you can actually get fully reimbursed for renewable energy purchases within the first year!
