Not really...there are a lot of Jack, Jacks, Jackson, Jaxons. Two Kates, lots of Haleys, generally pretty generic names.

We know a roscoe, a Casper, an ace and a banjo - so no, not very traditional! My son's name is his great-grandfather's, so super old school.

@erind425: I love that your LO is a John who goes by Jack, as I am an old curmudgeon at heart and just can't get on board with people using nicknames as names.

I live in the South so we hear lots of traditional names and also some double names as well. The non-traditional names tend to be last names - for example, my neighbor's son's name is her maiden name.

I love traditional names! My DS has a classic name although he goes by that name's nickname (Jack). A lot of people didn't understand why we would name him John if we wanted to call him Jack! Our other contenders were William and Henry, and our favorite girl's name is Caroline, so yeah, we like classic names

Most of the people we know gave their kids names from their cultures (eg. indian/chinese/japanese) so LO is one of the only kids in her daycare and our group of friends with an English name.

@SugarplumsMom: I studied abroad in Sweden while in college - I couldn't believe it when one of my classmates told me there was an approved list of names parents could use :)

I don't always check out the name threads but this one is fun, I like seeing the preschool class lists.

I think it's a pretty even mix. In B's music class there is:
Max
Ruby
Eden
Russell
Lilah
Crosby
Owen
Jack
Harper
Molly

That's all I can remember off hand. I feel like most are pretty classic. I live in Baltimore though, so we have our fair share of hipster names, too.

@farawayviolet: Natalie's actually a French name with Latin roots, it didn't originate in Utah.

We have a lot of the trendy/popular names around here. We also have a lot of Indian people in this area and they tend to give their kids traditional names from their culture.

It's funny though, I was thinking about the OP's original list of names and I don't think I've ever even met a Jane.

@Mrs. Jacks: I know!!! Big-ass babies! I was thinking the same thing.

With a free standing birth center, they aren't delivering any babies before 37 weeks, and they aren't doing any inductions ... I assume most of these are 40-41.5 weeks babies!!

Of all the births I've photographed, I've never seen a babe born under 7 lbs. (Including at the hospital with a 38 week mama).

@Mrs. Jacks: DH and I aren't Mormon, but live with extended family who all are, and 80% of our social circle is Mormon. I find Utah naming trends fascinating, especially when you look at how many names that are now common (e.g. Natalie) originated from Utah.
