I always help clean up because it motivates LO to clean with me. It also makes the cleaning process go by much faster. He will stall if I don't offer to help.

I do most of it right now at 22 months, but by 3 I would expect that he would put his toys away on his own.

Sometimes she'll do it without help while singing a clean up song. Other times my "helping" turns into me just doing it to get it done. :bummed: I'm not worried since sometimes she cleans up without prompting.
The most important thing for us was giving everything a dedicated home. Makes it much easier for all parties.

I used to insist that my kids clean up by themselves, and we had many standoffs on the topic. But then I read that the important thing is to get the kids cleaning... and that it's ok to offer to help out if there's resistance.

Since then, I always ask the kids to clean up their toys... and if they balk, I offer to help them and we do it together. I"m surprised at how effective this has been! Once they get started cleaning, they usually finish on their own... even if I'm not helping much or at all. Color me surprised!

Do you help your LO clean up after they're done playing?
