I asked our pediatrician's office and they recommended nursery water. We used it for the first month when I had to supplement. When LO started drinking water I gave him filtered tap since that's what we drink at home. I just make sure to buy toothpaste without fluoride.

we either boil our tap water or just use bottled/ gallon water jugs from the store. our tap has no floride in it, butive heard contradicting info about floride being good and bad for infants so i dont know what to believe!

Our tap water is terrible, we cant drink it so we dont give it to LO. we use gerber water for her. We used to use a brita filter but its annoying to keep refilling it. When we move I hope to get a pur filter that clicks on the tap

we plan on using normal from the sink tap...but we have really good water. Some people who live further into town (more rural) have less quality water than us in the suburbs. If you're scared...maybe just get a Brita pitcher? Cheap and easy fix!

We use unfiltered tap water. As far as flouride goes, it's not necessary for infants, and some resources show that overexposure to flouride can result in dental flourosis. Not all water agencies flouridate, though, so you might want to contact yours to see if they do and what the residual amounts are; then follow up with your doctor for his/her advice on safe levels.

Children under 2 shouldn't use fluoridated toothpaste (according to the CDC website) and if your child is fed formula prepared with fluoridated water there is a chance that they could develop fluorosis (also from the CDC website). I think you can contact your city's water department to get the fluoride level of your tap water though.

We use regular tap water. Or, to be more accurate, I use the tap water, DH uses the water from the fridge. Our pediatrician said our city water was just fine - no boiling needed.

@meredithNYC: the app and cdc suppot the use of fluoridated water. it's supposed to reduce cavities in kids 2+ by up to 40%.

i supposed infants under 6 months do not need fluoridated water though?

I use distilled water, which is not too inconvenient or expensive when you get it in the gallon jugs. I like that it's always room temperature, which keeps things consistent for LO, too. I was warned early on not to make the bottles warm since LO would come to expect it, which could be an issue when out and about, traveling, etc.

That said, I think tap water is fine! The only issue I have heard mentioned is that it's not great for baby if it's treated with fluoride. Has anyone else heard this?

We used tap water at first because we have town water so in theory it should be up to standards. We started having a lot of constipation issues though so we started using bottled to see if it would help (it didn't).
