But a wonderful study from my last institution showed that firearms in the home were 2xs (or 100%) more likely to be used on a family member than an intruder. I saw it all the time when I worked in a regional trauma center.... We were taught gun safety at a very young age and always knew they were not a toy, my children will be taught the same and take an education class as soon as they are old enough. I don't mess around with this. We don't have a gun safe because if we ever need a gun (if someone breaks in, etc) they aren't going to wait for us to open the safe. My neice comes over very often and we never worry about them, when we have a child they're very much going to know gun safety.
