I think training underwear yes, but regular underwear no. It is so thin it seems to wear out more quickly anyway but I haven't quite gotten there yet.

I haven't thought of it, but I don't think it's gross if it's going to a sibling. But I do think it's a little too personal to hand down to anyone else.

I'm planning to reuse unless they get gross. As of now, LO1 has had very few accidents, and they've been only pee. His undies look as clean as when we bought them so it seems wasteful to toss.

I'd figured I would keep any cute ones that are in good condition...we never had cheapie character undies, only nicer ones like carters/gap/gymboree (which I expected to last/wear better than they really did). In over a year I can literally count poop accidents we've had on (less than) one hand, so the undies are still pretty fresh looking, but have started to lose their decorative stitching at the waist/fade. So I won't make DD2 wear those, except maybe while she's FIRST training, or as extras to leave at school.

So I think all I'll really be saving are the Gerber training pants, which were only used for a few months, and still look new because I bought a ton of them.

I also think that choosing brand new undies can be a big potty training incentive for a toddler!

@Anagram: Well I have boys and they only get 1 pair of sneakers and either sandals or boots depending on the season so they really get worn out. I don't want to screw up LO2's feet by giving him crappy shoes! Might be a different story if I had a girl with tons of cute shoes though

Haha - aren't used undies just like used cloth diapers? So many people reuse cloth diapers!

I don't know if I would. I found a bunch of them lose their elasticity so they're not really re-wearable.

@skipra: ha, I'm not buying new shoes either. I get rid of the ones that aren't in good shape, but I have a little bit of a shoe problem for LO1, which now I justify by saying they'll all be used for LO 2 (both girls, born in the same season). So I figure the more pairs I buy, the better shape they'll stay in.....haha ;-()

Ha we use cloth diapers and those were definitely passed down from lo1, so the gender neutral ones we will save and she can get some she picks out too. There is nothing about it that is actually unsanitary, and I got past the ick factor a long time ago.

Yes! They're brothers! I wouldn't take used undies from anyone else outside immediate family. I'd toss them if they were falling apart. But I've never had underwear stay stained. Bleach and sun. They also wore the same cloth diapers and swimsuits and socks. HORRORS!

Yup, I'm definitely saving good condition undies. We are pretty early into the potty training game, but LO has yet to have an accident in panties (we are going commando these days), so as long as there aren't poop stains or something (and I wouldn't even have my LO 1 wear something like that anyway), yes LO2 will get them.

@AB810: I agree totally! We use cloth and got some gently used hand-me-down undies from friends for DS that we used. If I were having more children I would probably save the underwear from DS that were in great condition.

I've kept DS #1's character undies because he didn't like them and barely worn them. Maybe DS #2 will like them when the time comes. As for what he's wearing now, I'm' not saving them for DS #2. We did receive some random undies in hand me downs, but it wasn't like 20 of them.

Sure, underwear is cotton just like most of the rest of her clothes. We are keeping everything in good shape. I'm sure the younger kids will be getting some new pairs but some of LO's pairs are in excellent shape and it seems incredibly wasteful to throw them out. She had almost no poop accidents, mostly just pee.

Hmmm... My first thought was no, but we are using DD's cloth diapers for DS when he arrived, and that's considerably more, uh, personal...! So maybe within reason. That said, I don't remember ever wearing hand-me-down underwear as a kid.
