Yes, it's required. There's a long list of dedicated gear she has to have at her cubby at all times and it changes every season. During winter, she has to have a snowsuit, thin and thick hats, thick waterproof mittens, lined rain boots, snow boots, fleece pants and zip-up jacket, wool socks, and rubber rain jacket with a full-bib. Not to mention thinner water-resistant pants to go over her pants when it's not that cold. The list is exhausting! The weather here is highly unpredictable and the kids play outside every day, even when it's snowing, windy, and even through light rain.

However, I never have to worry about her gear because they have a drying cabinet at school where they hang all of the kids' gear if ever it gets wet. But most of the clothes are water-resistant and water-proof, so they hardly ever use it.

Mostly. They go outside every day, unless it's a blizzard or something. We take snow pants home on the weekends and his mitts and toque stay in his little back pack.

We keep our outside gear at school through the week, and they send it home on Thursdays, for the weekend.

We don't put snow pants or coats on in the car seat, and it's dark before and after school -- so we just don't need the stuff at home.

Yeah we keep a snowsuit at daycare. We have a separate jacket and snow pants we keep in her backpack. Seems silly, but DH does pick up and I do drop off. She rides in the infant seat and in case of emergency I want snow gear in the car she is riding in. This was my best solution, as DH certainly wouldn't remember to stuff the snowsuit in her backpack every night. They are both Columbia that I got with major deals in August.

Yes, she goes to nature preschool and they typically spend an hour and a half outside playing. She needs a pretty rugged set for that (we buy Oakiwear and love it). She has a separate set at home.

I'm so glad they take her outside so I don't feel bad if I can't.

I leave everything there, we have duplicates.
I got a great deal on a snow suit after I had already gotten her a different set. For $35 it was worth it for me to not have to lug stuff back and forth.
We've only had one snow play day so far though.

We do because like other people have said, they go out twice a day as long as it's above -15C (5F) before the windchill. We actually just bought him a second set of boots and snowpants so that we don't have to keep dragging stuff back and forth on weekends. He also has a hat and mittens that we leave there, and then he just wears his coat to and from daycare every day.

I do because they go out every day (weather permitting).

I usually get her snowpants/coat set at a local second hand shop to leave there. Along with snow boots!

Her regular coat, mittens, hat we take each day.

same as @tinyperson: - i keep his stuff in his locker all week and bring it home on weekends unless i plan to use it in the evening. i have spares of mitts, hats and neck warmers though that i try to leave permanently at school, but sometimes he wears them home at the end of the day and i have to bring them back.

I just dropped off some spare winter clothes and the kids were not going outside today. They do ask for snow pants but I don't want to keep eman extra pair so when it's super cold she wears them (we commute on public transportation to her school) and brings it back home.

If we have snow and it's not too cold they will go out, but usually send a reminder email so we don't send in gear unless they do. We're in the mid-atlantic so it's not a given we will have significant lasting snow at any point.

@tinyperson: I'm honestly Ok with it. We're by the Great Lakes and it gets downright frigid with windchills here most of the winter.
I know they incorporate other physicals activities into their day. Such as dance parties, gym time, etc.

I leave it at school and then bring it home on the weekends in case we decide to play in the snow. In WI they go out unless the windchill is below 0. They aren't necessarily playing in the snow every day, but it's COLD and they put snowpants/boots on all the kids every day just to keep them warm.

@Mamaof2: NY state it's above 35F I think. They go out every day but it's not necessarily always "snow play" so on an average day I don't think snow gear is always needed. I think if it wasn't a designated snow day and there's a ton of snow on the ground they would probably go to the gym instead?

we keep it at daycare during the week, unless we know we want to use it in the evening. They go outside twice every day unless the weather's really bad. I don't want to lug that back and forth every day. We bring it home on the weekend to wash and to use.

We do because they go out every day it's above like 20 degrees and it's much easier to leave gear there rather than haul back and forth!

We do have doubles of some items, but don't really end up needing to a true second set of everything because LO would only play at our house on the weekends, and I can just bring everything home from school on Friday.

At daycare they have designated "snow play" days. So on those days I'll bring in snow gear (snow bibs, snow boots, waterproof gloves) and then take them home at the end of the day to wash. Otherwise I don't really keep snow gear in her cubby. This way I don't need two sets of gear either! :P

Do you keep snow gear at daycare/school for your LO?
