I don't knit, but I used to crochet. Loved making blankets, but I can't remember how to anymore. I'm sure if I looked it up, I could maybe get back into the swing of things.

As a little girl, I LOVED LOVED LOVED cross-stitching though. I would get so excited when my mom let me pick my next design.

@tequiero21 - I usually forget how to crochet in between projects because I dont do it very often. Just look up some youtube videos to refresh your memory!

I made this blanket for LO. It was pretty easy to do, just time consuming.

I also made this rattle and turtle with leftovers.

http://season-with-love.blogspot.com/2012/05/i-guess-this-is-what-they-call-nesting.html

@tequiero21: I highly recommend this video to spark your memory: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqca00LdmAc
And then.... I started with this hat:
http://crochet.about.com/od/hats/a/simple-crochet-baby-beanie-free-pattern.htm
And I got some library books with patterns. I always modify everything though. Check out the booties! (still in progress)
[attach=741/12/mat7co.337x600.P1060529.JPG]
Next up: a vest and sleep sacks. Then back to knitting! Knitting is so much easier for me but I have never turned a heel knitting so I decided to try crochet for round/curved things.

@lemonlong: That turkey hat is too funny! I love the sweater and turban hat.

I've been knitting and crocheting since I was little. I've made everything, sweaters, socks, hats, blankets, felted shoes, etc.

I just started a baby sweater and hat to bring the baby home in http://www.pickles.no/lazy-daisy-baby-jacket/

I also want to do this hat since I'm due Nov 9th.

http://www.goingcrafty.com/2007/11/jive-turkey-baby-hat-pattern/

I haven't been doing a lot of knitting and crocheting for baby, because I'm a yarn snob so projects tend to be expensive and it doesn't seem worth it for something they grow out of so quickly!

@tequiero21: I love that swirl hat!
I just learned to crochet more than a single crochet and chain--I made a hat and booties. I am going to try a vest next (all baby sized).
I have been knitting my whole life and can make a lot but I am very lazy and don't even have any knitting needles at my current apartment!
@MH.Abroad: I have got to look this up!

Ahhhhh, I've been working on a baby hat that I would have been done with already but I tore it out 3 times for stupid little mistakes. Normally I would have ignored it, but I'm using nice yarn that I got from an actual yarn shop ($$$) rather than stuff from Michael's or Walmart - its a wool/silk blend. And its SUPER fine so I'm using size 1 circulars for it which is kinda a pain in the butt! Lol I'll be happy when its done!

@Navy_Mommy: Cute! I finally logged into the lion brand site, and I think I am going to give the elephant a try. I thought it might be more complicated in that it's a real tube knit on DPNs, but I can handle a simple 6 to 12 stitch piece. I might even do it on DPNs and make an I-cord, that is even simpler and it rolls onto itself.

I cro-knit! Yes, a combination of knitting and crocheting. It's fun. You use a giant needle that looks like a very big crochet needle with a hook on both ends.

@carrieknitscake: gotcha! good to know. see, i didn't know that either. haha. i know what you mean by decoding patterns. these are supposed to be easy patterns, but obviously, i'm more of a beginner than i thought. i've been youtubing things (like how to do an M1, thumb method, etc. =)) i need to see (i'm more visual) than read)... i probably would have given up on this pattern, but the elephant is TOO CUTE and i really want to try to make one. =D

@tequiero21: With increase rows, you usually have a row or two in between them. If you look at your shirt or sweater at the armholes, you'll see how the increases aren't each row, but every other, so that it's not so severe of an increase and reaches the correct size. That pattern is worded funny too. Sometimes, I'll read through a pattern to see if I like the instructions before deciding to do it. If it's not terribly clear, I tend to avoid it. I prefer to spend my knitting time knitting instead of decoding poorly written patterns.

I have been taught to knit about 5 times, and after a couple of months I forget how. But I really would love to learn how to do it properly, and to crochet as well. It looks like such a relaxing thing to do while watching TV. Im handsewing a quilt at the moment during the evenings.

(i've been motivated since i'm expecting in a few months and want to make them cute things haha). thanks, again!!!

@tequiero21: You purl the first purl (which is your Row 1). Then, you do the Increase row, then purl, increase row, purl, increase row, purl. That was the sense that I got from the pattern. After every increase row, you purl. It sounds like the increases are on Row 2 (even numbered rows).

@carrieknitscake: hey carrie, hate to keep bothering you.... so i got the casting and did the first row (purl, right?)....

the step states "first and next 4 following alternate rows: purl"... what does that mean? does that mean rows 1, 3, 5, i do purl and 2, 4 i do knit? or does that mean rows 1-5 just do purl? (why do they stick in alternate?). thanks! any help is much appreciated!
